INTEMPERANCE.
There has been a great deal said on
tho subject of Intemperance; but there
cannot bo too much said on this very
important subject for tho benefit of tho
human race, physically, mentally, or
religiously. It is that, the uao of liquor
is ono of the greatest, most degrading,
and most unnecessary evils that the
human raco have to contend with. It
causes she fall of man personally, mor->
ally, financially arid religiously. In so
ciety it brings him beneath the common
lovol. In places of distinction, ho is
brought to the, bottom. Iq positions of
life that would be his sure road to uq*
bounding success, ho ia brought beneath
tho crust, Bo many characters that
drink, for refuge lice to the excuse that
they aro drinking bocauao of trouble.
This is a very poor excuse for doing so;
using such riiouua as is debasing to a
man in all and any circumstances in
life -it only adds “fuel to tho fire-"
See how many Sabbaths havo been
broken by the uso of whiskey. So.
how many subjects aro now in our com¬
mon jails and Chain Gangs, from this
dissipation. How often has pub ic
worship boon changed from the worship
of God to contusion and contempt of
tho Almighty? It only prepares a man
for sin at heart, and will bring him
down, and at last to fill a drunkards
grave, and his reward is received in a
drunkards hell! How many wives have
suffered untold agony from tho fiendish
appetite of a husband for whisky? How
many mothers whoso hopes have been
blighted, whoso future is darkened for¬
ever; whose happiness is destroyed by
the falling of a son into drunkenness
and other horrible crimes that are caus¬
ed therefrom? It deploys the mind,
and what ia man without mind ? It de¬
stroys peace, and what is lifo without
happiness? It destroys love for one
another, and what is this world without
love? It take away vigor, strength and
health, and what is tho body w ithout

Do not drink; it wiil make you happy
