Church South is now in session at Dahlonega, Ga. HHFS »#*SS£)KSE It is with pleasure we draw the at tontioo of our readers to the announce moot of the Kentucky Military Acadr mv the circular of which we have just read with unalloyed satisfaction. It . ‘ a school where ooya from 15 to 21) year# are in four years or less transformed into vigorous graceful * cultured man¬ hood with the dignity bearing and re¬ finement of gentlemen. Mr. Edwin .-Video’s late visit there confirms fully the remarkable system of discipline and methods of instruction there adopted being in his view au immense advance over that in vogue in any of our colleges. Their circular is a valuable document worth reading and study too. • Saved By Floating. While John Neely and a party of ladies and gentlemen were enjoy nig a picnic on an island a few miles east -K this place his niece Miss Cornelia Brad¬ ley met with quire an accident. Dur¬ ing the afternoon she with three other ladies left the balance of the party and went some distance around tho shore to battle They insisted on going alone and declined the offer of a gen¬ tleman to accompany them. They selected a dangerous place for bath ing and Miss Bradley going beyond her depth was swept off into tho ocean by a strong current and soon disap¬ peared in tbo high breakers. She could no longer be seen by those on tho island. It was quite a time before the other three ladies being at a dis¬ tance could give the alarm to the bal¬ ance of the party. When they did so it created the greatest consternation. All hope of rescue by the party was soon abandoned and she was given up for lost. When however the alarm reached tho fish oil factory which is near tho north end of tho island two young men employed there thought¬ fully took a boat and sailed nut on tho ocean and when a mile or more from shore they found Miss Bradley Heating on the water and rescued her. She had been in that perilous position for near ly au hour. When rescued she was greatly exhausted but able to spedk and is to-day improving with every prospect of speedy recovery. Miss Bradley could not swim but had here¬ tofore learned the art of floating on the water and to this and the energetic and manly effota of the two young men Frank Milliner and Polk Lang s\e is to¬ day indebted for her life. He Wanted his Money. Augusta News. Last Sunday niqht. as Mr. IT. 0. Ra¬ bun returned from church at Villa Biea, he noticed a great light, and. hastening to the spot, he found that Mr. M. B. Smith’s gin house, with bis entire crop of wheat, and also his cropper's wheat, also a portion of Mr. Smith's oat crop had burned down. Mr: Rabun remain¬ ed there until day light, when he began his work trying to catch tho guilty par¬ ty,_ He soon discovered tho tracks go¬ ing" out through tho cotton field, and, hastening on. he overtook a negro boy that Mr. Smith bad with him for some time. Mr. Rabun asked him to go up to the burned house with him. The boy went and seemed to be as innocent as if ho had never thought of such an act. About the burning ho said: ‘Yes I done it.’ "Why did you do it?' ’Case Mr. Smith owes mo some money and house.’' won't pay it, and I thoughtl’d burn de Mr. Smith did not owe him a cent. Murdered by Her Husband. AViregrass AVatchnian. A correspondent writing us from Ap¬ pling county states that Mrs. Dogan, who lives at No. 5 on the M. & B Rail road, was recently murdered by her husband at that place. It seems that he hung her up by a rope until life was rendered impossible, when he cut her down, and, hiding the evidence of his guilt, cried out to tho neigbors that bis wife was dying. The two never lived together agreeably, and foul play was suspected, which was confirmed by the coroner’s jury charging him with mur¬ der The wretch lied, but has since been arrested, and awaits his trial in Wayne county jail.
