The dockets, records, and o.her books in the office of the Cletk of tho Superior Court, also deserve com¬ mendation for their neatness, and sys teyi with which they are kept. We dad the county jail clean and good order within, but wo recommend that tbo Ordinary give hm early atten¬ tion to repairing the under-pinning and foundation of the building, W • r—m mend, also that the stair case go ug up to cho door bo supplied with eubatan* tial banister or railing Wq find the ventilation to the dun goon imperfect,* and recommend that the same be improved aa far as consis¬ tent with the safe keeping of the pris¬ oners. We regret to report the public roads of the county generally, have not been as thoroughly worked as the public in¬ terest requires, and wo do most re¬ spectfully and earnestly direct tho road commissioners of the county to re¬ quire the overseers of the various pub¬ lic roads to have thorn worked and put in good order in the next sixty days. Wo recommend that the Jurors for the torn of court during the ensuing year be paid one dollar per day. As Grand Jurors, and as citizens we are much gratified that our General Assembly has seen fit to create a new Judicial circuit in this section of the State. Wo are satisfied that the pres¬ ent arrangement will inure in many ways to the advantage "FD of ail ;X\ the T coun t esaffecteu, by relieving the courts of the pressure of business, and expedit¬ ing the trial of causes, thus saving much time to parties and witnesses. In this connection wo beg leave to ex¬ press our high appreciation of tbo very graceful and able manner in which His Honor Judge Wellborn, tuts presir ded at our court. We respectfully tender him our thanks for tbo courtesy, the impartiality, and flrmuoss with which he administered tho law. Wo fool that our new circuit is to he congratulated in having for its first Judge, a man of his distinguished ability and eminent per¬ sonal character, We beg also to com¬ mend the zeal, faithfulness and profess-, ional skill displayed by our Solicitor General, Col.
