Preparations are being made to repair
the brick building on the East side of

like to see a new building going up on
the ground where the other burned
building stood.

ATHENS LETTER.
The show has come and gone, and
there never was a greater humbug per*
petrated on a people. Your correspon
dear, thought ho would avail himself
of this opportunity to see the groat
wonders or tii * world, so buy ing a ticket,
he proceeded attkeappointed hour to the
place where they wore going to show.
On arriving at the grounds found every
tning in one solid mass, and yon could
not stir them with a stick. There were
fully ten ,thou%iaiL popple about the
canvass trying to gain admittance, but
they were told that the doors wore Dot
ready to be opened, and so the whole
crowd stood there and were pushed
around audone lady fainted, and two or
three little children were almost suffo¬
cated. I have been in tight places and
bad some close shaves, but never expe¬
rienced the torture I dul on this occa¬
sion, At last the door3 were opened J
and the crowd eerged forward in one
solid Ditisa to gain entrauce, and the
ladies wot e pushed a Bout promiscuously ,
o,nd every one seemed fo bo trying to j
jiu- t somebody oat of his way After

| bail, The keeper climb would ladder, make them and roll do a
a run races,
a variety of things, and they seemed to
understand what he said perfectly. lie
placed two ladders together, and told
them all to form in a line, and tho one
that got over those ladders first would
receive a lump of sugar. At the signal
i all-started and together for
run some
time but at last one of them thinking he
was going to be beaten adopted the
shorter plan of going straight through,
and when his tired companions nrilved
ho greeted them with a chirp of triumph.
The keeper said that it took him two
years to learn them to do this one thing,
and I thought it ho was that long learn¬
ing them that, and it took him as long
to learn all other tricks, that his birds
were surely getting up in years’; but of
course for you rnu-t always make allowance
showmen, for they.will lie.
The day passed off very quietly, and
no serious damage was done, A white
man cut a negro’s throat hut not fatally
it is thought, and this as usual, was
caused by whisky.
I seo by your last issue that you have
removed tho AdvjbrtWer toChRksville,
and whle White couuty will regret, to
loose you still she will not be so selfish
as to want you to stay there when it
will bo to y.mr interest to go elsewhere.
And now Cleveland will be minus ten
Churches, and she can ill afford to loose
them too as in them she took a just
pride, and also in former days tho Bells
and Churches were about even, but
now she will have more bolls than
churches, but bur loss will bo Clarks¬
ville's gain.
I hope you may h&vo that success in
your now fields of labor that you de
serve, and old Habersham should come
up to your aid, and build up the Adver¬
