Our Sheriff had necessarily to knock an intoxicated negro in tho head this week, in self defence. The Court has boen oumbered this week with some tedious casos which necessarily consume a considerable amount of time. See advertisement of J. A. Reynolds, Surveyor, in another column. Mr. Reynolds is competent and worthy of your patronage. Miss Mollie Church left this place last Friday morning for tho Gate city, whore she will probably make hor home for nine time. A little labor and good judgment judiciously applied to tho sidewalks and streets would add much to tho appear¬ ance aad character of our town. The Grand Jury for the present term of our Superior Court is composed of able men who seem to bo earnest in looking after tho various interests of the county. Mrs. Alex. Church begs leave to ten der her warmest thanks to Mrs. C. H. Button for a basket of nice yam potatoes, one of which weighed something over six pounds. P. F. Lawshe of the Gainesville Southron gave tho Advertiser a call this week. And also a representative of the Southern Banner, at Athens whose name has slipped our memory. We thank them for the kindly express^, ions of success in our new field of labor. Editor Advertiser: Allow me space in your paper to thank all those kind friend* who stood by my husband in time of trouble. Also ?to those who have been so very kind to me since my return, and whoso kindly counsels have done so much to restore harmony. I wish to say there will al¬ ways be a warm place in my heart for them, and may the promised portion of the peace makers be theirs. I am con¬ vinced of my husband’s innocence of the charges brought against him, and sincerely regret auy share I may have had in his suffering. I have no ill will toward any one— and I hope that ia our endeavor to bu¬ ry the errirs and troubles of the past, we may have the aid and good wishes of our many friends in Georgia. Believe me kind friends, your kind¬ ness to the “stranger in your gates'’ will never be lorgotten Mrs, H. D. Ingersoll. Loudsville, Nov- 13, 1881. I wish to join my wife in her gratitude to the friends in my adversity. I will never forget those who stood by mo when I so much needed friends, and in the future I will so live that I may be worthy of their confidence. H. D. Ingersoll. Nov. 13, 1831. SUPERIOR COURT. They pro. diet the readjuster and Republicans in the Legislature will fall out over the election of Untited State sonator; that Mahone pledged Lewis the sen a-, torship if ho would consent to his name to bo used on the readjuster tickets that Lewis consented and on this con¬ sent he holds tho readjustee as bound to make him senator. Cameron Riddie berger and Auditor Maasie, all promi roadjusters, want to bosenatorand will make efforts to be elected, The Demo¬ crats hope and believe that tho Repub¬ licans and readjusters will fall out over this position. If they disagreo the | Democrats Wickham will straightout propose Republican. to elect Gen. a the Republican members of the Legis¬ lature will unite with them the crats will gladly elect a Republican to beat the readjusters and it is the national leaders of the Republican party would in view of the narrow mar¬ gin in the senate advise tho election of Wickham rather than have a coalition¬ ist senator. Mutilated Coin. An erroneous impression prevails as to the value of mutilatod silver coins, created probably by au illusive adver¬ tising card circulated by a business turn in which it is said that the Government has fixed a definite scale upou coins with holes iu them rating the dollar so treated at sixtysfive cents, the dollar at thirty-five cents and so on. No s.ich annouucement was evor made by the Treasury Department, To cor¬ rect iho false notion which has grown upou tho subject the Treasury Depart¬ ment has just published the following circular: Treasury* Department, ) Bureau of the Mint, > Washington, D C., Oct. G, 1881. ) The Government has fixed no valua¬ tion upon mutillatod silver coin than tho market value of the silver contain. They are purchased at mints by-weight aa bullion and tho ue dopeads upon tho price of silver the any coin is received at the At present the price paid by the mint is $1.12$ per ounce fine. Horatio C. Experiment With Bono Meal and Ashes. A fanner in Indiana gives the follow¬ ing result of an experiment with bone dust and wood ashos. Ho says: ‘I ap¬ plied GOO pounds of dry unleached ashes to tho acre and sowed wheat on that and tho result was ouly six bush¬ els to the acre—Adjoining this tract I drilled in 200 pounds of bone dust and tho three acres produced 20 bushels to the acre being an increased yield of fourteen bushels over tho tract sown with wood ashes. Tho fbllowiug year I used 500 pounds of bone dust on the plot where I had previously sown GOO pounds of ashes and the result was for¬ ty bushels of wheal to the acre being double what the bone produced alone. The experiment satisfied me that ashes alone or bone-dust alone would not give me a yield that paid to my satis¬ faction. This acre with ashes yielded six bushels the acre with the yielded twenty bushels but when tbe two were combinod I harvested forty bushels. This shows what experiment and a small expenditure of money will do for the progressive farmer., The Credit System. A Northern explorer of Georgia ton fields has sampled the credit which is bound to keep every poor as long as it lasts. The local italists who advance money aud visions ou the mortagd of tho crop run up prices of purchasers they chalk, them down uutil their age extra charge reduced to an basis is from 25 to 500 per cent, annum. * ‘There is no occupation in world,' says tbe observer unless ii successful bank burglary which can made to pay a return on capital borrow¬ ed at such a ruinous rate.’ The salvation from the swindles described gradually coming about and that is influx of Northern capital.— graph.
