There seems to be morbid appetites
in Whashington, yearning for an op
portunity to grab an un-picked bone,
mid sit bwk in an easy chair with the
dignit y of a prince.
1 lie same thirst lor the ih'cptst gi- •>
into “Uncle Sam’s” pocket seems to
exhibit itself in local as well as in Na
tional politics. If cilice holders were
only allowed enough to defray necessa¬
ry peases they would not be soclam
oroc i for otlice. But money seems to
be the leading element in almost every
instance. Men who have made them¬
selves capable of filling positions
honor and trust ought to be paid for
their services, while at the same time
they should have the best interest of
the people in t he front rank.
WASHINGTON LETTER.

There is life enough about Washing

of hostilities oa Capitol bill. The cha¬

dust and abaodoment reduced even the

suddenly disappeared and new life has
taken possession of tbo corridors so long
deserted save by the looker on. Dur¬

in their places and strangers, offioo
eeekers and loungers are everywhere.
Everything has been pat in apple pie
older. The Senate chamber is as coni

Hall of Representatives is i-carcciy any¬
thing behind; all t« as elegant as fair a

The small one will be, so to speak the
President’s bondior and communicates
with the larger one by a mahogany
door. The question that has lately ag¬
itated our society circles is, “what lady
will preside’ at the White House and as*

will assist him in dispensing the hospi¬
