Drew, the successful tem¬ perance worker attributes largely his suocess in Georgia to the oo operation of Governor Colquitt. At a Baptist church fair in Albany, Georgia, reoeutly, some young ladies with gentlemen escorts had a walking match for a cake The fastest walkers won the cake The city of Atlanta grows wonder¬ fully. A late copy of the Constitution tells of the many new building that ars to be erected this spring. hope no one will ever ask us again to pay any of the debts of tb*» Blue Ridge Echo, as we never had any connection with that paper, arid will not pay any of its contracts. The Grant boom has about boomed. Now the General will, no doubt, go back to Galena and live his remaining days near the old tan yard. We’ve had enougli of him. The Georgia papers generally regret the resignation of Co! Logan E, Bleck¬ ley as Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Col. B. is an able jurist and a pure man. If we were simply a machine without breath, we would not need anything to to eat or to wear, but we are flesh and blood and. draw our breath as others do. Tbey are alleged to be chiefly used for alms and as offer¬ ings to gods. There may be some places this side of Japan where that kind of money would be in great demand for contri bgting to the Lord’s treasury. Kon. Emory Sneer, representing this District in Congress, recently read a preamble and resolution in the House of Respresentatives, asking for an ex planation of the necessity of raids in the Northeastern Georgia counties by Revenue officials. The resolution was ordered printed and referred to the Ways and Means committee. The Lagrange Reporter comes to our Sanctum enlarged. It is one of the best weeklies of the State Press, Our coun¬ try press will have to make considera¬ ble improvement to lr^np pace with the $1,00 weekly edition of the Atlanta Constitution. OUR COUNTY. It sl.ould be the aim of every citizen in White county, to advance her inter¬ est in every possible war. There is not a county in the State, endowed with more natural advantages than White county—her water powers are magnificient, her soil productive, her timbers almost inexhaustible, and her peopm talented. Now let us go to work, and build school houses anu put them in charge of the best teachers that we can find—practical teachers, who are able *■', educate our children in a practical way. Au education, without a practical b knowledge * of business is worth but little to any one. uet every one be taught according to the avooa tion desired. When this is done, we shall see at least five times the cf agricultural and mechanical or©- 1 ducts as are now being produced. We shall see hundreds of cotton bales, and F 'tories to manufacture it for our use, We would also have machinery for the manufacturing of our timbers, (which are as good as the best,) iuto carriages, wagons and furniture- and the very bMt flouring milis and an ample supply of grain to keep them daily employ . Besides, we would have better, and mo. o elevated society—and labor would be better, and better remunerated. There would be no excuse for ldleuer none could say no has offered to hi re A practical education would e,ovate the minds of the people above certain j degrading avocations, and place them in respectable positions of usefulness to themselves and th-'S? around them, Let us use every laudable me-:ns in our power to build up oar county ; ■ an cf her interests—siu uo •: a . ox her enterprises of usefulness, an a among other things let ns build a rail road from some convenient point, our vtouk: city. Who will lead in this matter ? We know that our capital is small, - at labor is abundant and cheap. t,ilig«t labor »i«, aay.lb.ag ««W is sure to beset capital. H we cannot produce a sufficient amount of capital, we must offer inducements to capitalists from abroad; acquaint them with our na¬ tural advantages, ami prove to them by our actions, that we are a generous and hospitable poopie. Then, and not, .a*', til then tbey will come among us, and help us to build up our too much neg¬ lected section of Georgia.
