Cleveland, Georgia, April 10, 1880.
As our paper failed to reach us iu
time we are forced to issue a half sheet
.this week.
Snow last Thursday, and cold too.
Don’t fail to caii and see those nice
table furnishing goods at W. B. Bell's.
Court commeuces in Dahionega next
Monday morning.
' If you are troubled with constipation
go to Ash & McAfee and buy a bottle of
“Allum and Iron Mass." Use as di¬
rected and you will be relieved
The rush at Bell's for new goods still
increases ,
Our Court room ought to be niceiy
cleaned out and the door kept locked.
There is no doubt, fleas enough in the
house to torment the whole Court out
of their wits.
A Lot of genuine Seth T no mas Clocks
cheap at W. B. Bell’s.
If some one will give a liberal pie.
mium for the “biggest” rat in town we
think we can produce it.
There is a new Post olfic o established
on Shoai Creek, thb name of which is
“Tesnatee.” We want a good list of
subscribers down there now and we
ought to have them.

they will renew their subscriptions ’ or

.Spring time is actually upon us with
its lovely flowers, aud the green foliage
<>f the forest, presenting to us the beau
ties of Lattire, and calling to mind many
pleasant scenes of gone-by hailed' days. Love
ly spring, thou art ever with joy ;
Dr. W, M- Puckett was in our town 7
this week pulling out old teeth and u
serting now ones. Dr. Puckett is a
good dentist, and wa advise those who
wish to get ridof their old aching teeth,
to avail themselves of the opportunity,
during his occasional visits to this place
to call upon him.
Our h* fto*
zens ihinks^ about we ought rail road Dot energy; to ecold but oar to give ^
them time and they will “work to the
meg,” This reminds us of the mao
who was urged by his companion to
catch the mole, when he said, “just
give tne time,’’ and he never did catch
it, and we fear the same result will fol¬
low iu reference to a rail road. We
think they ought to he stirred up now
and then. We want a practical cor
respondent to show them tbe necessity
of a railroad.
On last Saturday and Saturday night,
and even until Sunday morning, we
wer 6 visited with heavy rains accompa¬
nied with unusual thunder and lighting,
The rolling sound of the thunder,
would frequently continue for hall an
hour without ceasing, resembling tbe
noise of a tornado: though very little
wind accompanied the passing showers aud
which flooded the earth with water
swelled the streams to an excessive
height, washing away fences in many
places. From about 8 to JO o'clock
on Saturday night, there seemed almost
an incessant flash of lightning in an
Easterly direction, and a continual
roaring of thunder. Sunday ^as bright
and pleasant, save a few thunder shows
^rs passing briskly by.
GOLD !
-
On last Tuesday morning oir enter
prising friend, Mr. J. R. Lutnsdeu en
tered our sanctum; and drew from
pocket a sack containg a hand full
largo, bright dazzling nuggets of pure
gold, which he emptied into our hand.
The lot weighed 343 pennyweights,
leu pieces of which ; veraged from 17
to 53 pennyweights each. This gold is
taken from the J, L. Richardson pro
party, aud we believe it to be the beat
mine that has ever been discovered
in White county, or even within the
limits Of the State, and bids fare to COU
tinue. We do not believe there is a
better county in Gorgia for gold, than
White, and we wish the enterprising Mr.
Lumsdeu all the success he can desire.
Creek, our regular price is ten cents
per line.

j A Word for Florida.
i Oar remdoneeis in Orlondo, the
ty seat of Orange. We have omy been
here since the 13th day of last April,
but we have been here long enough to
kuow something of the climate and the
| prominent . features ef the country. This
' is properly^tbe Lake region of South
Florida and-tbe most elevated
Orlondo is about 600 feet higher than
the Gulf at Tampa, one hundred miles
distant; aud probably 300 feet higher
than the Atlantic at Jacksonville,
miles distant. Some Of the Lakes here
are very large — the largest of which is
Lake Apopka, 17 by 14 miles, and ear
rounded by as fertile lands as can be
found iu the South.
There are hundreds of lakes in this
county of various sizes, composed
clear water, and in the midst of genu
iae orange lands, unsurpassed in their
i peculiar adaptiveness to the growth of
the greater number of the tropical and
eemi-tropica! fruits. The groves here
that are properly cultivated are among
the finest in the State. The country is
rapidly filling up with intelligent, en¬
terprising citiz-.ns—churches ate in
creasiDjf. (he:. .slug more than forty

We are not a land agent and paid in

the climate, the lands and the moral
of the people—and altogether, we
do not believe that Orange count,v can
he excelled iu any portion of the United
States.
