Proat plenty last Saturday morning,
m these parts.
There is plenty of Blockade whiskey
around town this week, or the better
name for it is the devil’s perfumery,
for he always has possession of it and all
who c eal with it,
Some mon love to boast that they
never took a neawpaper in their lives,
but they love to read on somebody elses
expenses, “you bet.”
Many ofoursubscribers have not come
to the “scratch” this week, but we feel
thankful to those who did, and hope
those who did not soon will.
Uncle Thomas Richardson, one of the
oldest and most substantial citizens of
White county, we learn has been quite
sick fur some time past, but is now bet¬
ter, and we hope will soon be restord to
health.
Col. Redwine of the Gainsville Eagle i
gave us a pleasant call this week. Wo j
were much pleased to see the Col., and
to have a pleasant chat with him.
The ”, friends ' of Capt. Ingersol met at
tuc McA.eo House , T Uiso , ltiursdu^ , nigut . ,
to congratulate him on his acquittal,
They sat down to a good supper, and
Bad a good time generally.
Frank L Haralson, of Atlanta, who
was raised in the mountains, hu3 been
in attendance on court this week. We
; re proud of Frank, and think ho wor
tbily wears the honors he has received.
AYe will rejoice in his future .«-r
rnent.
Very neat little bureau, Judge, but
we knew it would be, for we knew you
were aide to do a neat job every time
you tried. It is Judge llouston.we are
Ui’king to, and Judge if you will never
do a worse job we hope that you may
have all the work that you vau do, aod
that success may be yours.
A few days ago in Habersham comity,
a Mr. V. auidm, ... Mr. , r Loggms T and , hia ,
wife were iu the field at work,
when a thunder storm atose, the light¬
ning striking and killing the two horses,
and knocking down the men but not
seriously damaging them. All
close together, but the woman was
hurt, although she held the bridle of
one of the animals in her hand
We are unable to give in detail, the
proceedings of court this week, as WO
are compelled to go to press before its
adjournment, We will, however, say
lhat Judge Erwin’s charge to the Grand
Jury was good and wise, and we have
no doubt they have done all in their
power to comply with the charge, Solic¬
itor-General Ab. L. Mitchell,of Athens,
admirably and ably fills bis position,
and is a young lawyer of strong points.
The following members of the bar
from a distance are in attendance upou
court: Captain Harry Jackson and Hon.
Francis L. Haralson, of Atlanta; Cols.
W. P Price, Wier Boyd, R. H. Baker,
of Dahlonega; Colonels Henry Perry
and J. N. Dorsey, of Gainesville ; Cols.
C. J. Wellborn, and H. C. Standridge,
of Hiwassee; Colonels C. H. Sutton and
W-T. CraDe, of Clarkesville, and Col.
.James Fields, of Raburn, with a full
lepresntation of the local bar.
FROM DAHLONEGA.
the Adrertiier.]
Hk. Editor: The enquiry has been
nude through your columns, asking
what had become of tbe Dahlonga cor
esspondent. He answers to the enquiry,
not dead, bit sleepeth.- and only been
aroused to a state of consciousness by
toe sound of a political cyclone whieh
has blown to the surface four candG
iates, prospectively as standard bear
ers to carry the news through the coun¬
ty of Lumpkin, f former damage done
by the*e storms which has swept i very
vietage of Constitutional liberty from
the people, aud they want to be seat to
the next legislature to stop the flood
tide of ruin. Then again we have lour
candidates from Dawson aud one from
Lumpkin, who think that the Slate can¬
not afford to loose their valuable ser¬
vices in tho Senate, provided the people
will say so at the ballot box. I want
to be understood that I do not condemn
this ambition in any gentleman, as it is
laudable and right, but simply to show
you that we will not be lacking in can¬
didates to make a choice out of. It
makes me fuel that 1 would like to be a
candidate myself, but there is an old
saying and true one that 'every dog has
his day,’ so my ambition for the present
must be suppressed.
I have said enough for the present on
this subjeci. The mining interest in
Lumpkin is active with flfcair prospect
of a good summer’s yield of gold.
Dawsuu county is attracting some at
teution by gold seekers, A. company
from the North have .invested largely in
property in that county and have a ditch
surveyed, and have began work, bring¬
ing the water from the Amiealol.i, on
the property purchased by them; when
completed will be between eighteen and
twenty miles long, which will give to
these enterprising gentlemen a decided
advantage that has never been realised
in that gold belt before. As the want
of a sufficient amount of water has pro
vented the development of the mines
heretofore, it is to be hoped that they
will meet with that success that their
enterprise and investment deserves.
The Gainsville and Dahlonega Hail
mad survey has been completed to
Auraria, within six miles of our Town,
which makes us look hopeful that the
road will be completed in the course of
short time.
