ASTRONOMY IN ROCHESTER
The'new Warner Observatory which
is being erected at Rochester, N. Y., is
attracting much attention ir, social and
literary as tvelias sgientiirc ebeies. The
new telescope will be twenty-two feet,
in length, and its leus sixteen inches in i
d'ameter, thus making if third in size ■
cf any instrument heretofore manufac¬
tured, while the- d one of the Observato¬
ry is to have some new appliances for
specially observing certain portions of
the heav -ns. It is to be the (iciest pri¬
vate observatory io the world, and has
been heavily endowed by Mr. il. H.
Warner, proprietor of the Safe Kidney
and Liver Cure, and other remedies. :
Professor Swift has labored under mi¬
was in spire of many obstacles, but as
the new institution is to be specially
devoted to discoveries there are good
reasons to expect very many scientific
revelations in the near future from the
Warner Ohsnrvato-y at Rochester.
