M tr.cn "9.—The storm on Tuesday evening did not reach this place, though the cloud was risible nntl the roaring of the wind was distinctl y heard. homo 0 our people were a little frightened. As vet there is only one cyclone pit in Palmetto, but several are talking of building them. . . The Chattahoochee nver has been ,. C ry high at some of tho ferries. The farmers in this section wore •Sever so far behind with their crops at this season of the year. There have not been three successive days suitable for plowing since Christmas. The modules predict fair weather now, for a week or two. I hope they may be true prophets. NEWNAN. miuc.ts LtnERTY OS THE WANE—KILL- ISO AN EAGLE. Makch 28.—American liberty is on the nano in this section of Georgia at the present writing. Mr. Joseph TV. Clarke ruthlessly shot and killed the great American bird about three miles west of Xewnan, this afternoon. The eagle measured a few inches over seven feet from tip to tip. After Mr. Clarke shot the monster he llow directly at him for a tcrriblo combat, but the first shot being mortal, tho proud bird of America died without making further resistance. While this is true, who ran treat it? 0R1FFIM. ADJOl'RNKn TEIIM OP COURT— BICYCLE CLUB—XOBTII WIND. March 29.—An adjourned term of Spalding Superior Court will convene on Monday morning for the trial of some cases left over from tho last reg ular term. Among them is tho caso of the negro Touchstone, who will stand t second trial on tbe chanto of murder, the first jury making a Sustr ial. Several of our young men have in Tested in bicycles and the formation of a bicycle club is talked of. Spring tnulo la rather backward ns yet, even in the credit line. Merchants catenng for this latter trado report it duller than they have ever known it to be at this season of the year. North winds make tho dust very try ing on the drygoods merchants to-day. lidnyhave formed a company and in tend to apply for a charter, the object being to construct, maintain, equip and operuto a railroad from Dublin, through Laurens, Pulaski and Dodge counties, to most eligible point at or near Alice or Cochran, on tho East Tennessee, Virginia ami Georgia railroad, a dis tance of thirty miles. Hon. L. M. Peacock, mayor, is in re ceipt of a communication .from Mr. 8. II. Iluwkins, of Atncricus, chairman ot a committee appointed at a citizens’ meeting held in Amertcus on March 2d last, inviting his co-opcration in an ef fort to have direct railroad with this growing town, meeting was largely attended in Amer icas and a lively interest manifested. Tho people ot Americas seem deter mined to havo an outlet to the east. A committee of five was appointed and invested with plenary powers to pro cure a railroad outlet to tho cast to be mado with the East Tennessee, Vir ginia and Georgia railroad at Eastman or Hnwkinsvillc, or some other point, or with any other corporation, as may be deemed to be tho best interest of this section of country. Wo trust our worthy mayor will take the initiatory steps necessary to secure prompt ac tion, and that the committee bo invited to visit us and confer with our town authorities or a duly appointed com mittee. Wc may say in advance that the visiting committee will meet with a warm reception and that they will leave us with a conviction that the people hero are alive to the progressive spirit of the age, and will do as much or more towards the success of the enterprise than any other. Wo are confident that it willbc to the bestinterestof the road anti tliis section of country to connect with Eastman.
