THE NEWS IN GEORGIA,
Tiikrk was a fall of snow in the
mountainous section of Georgia last
week.
The Quitman Nt\n Soulft wants
Brooks county ably and faithfully
represented in the next Legislature,
anil claims that there is no lack of
material for securing that end.
Newt and A tlvertiser: We aro now
having what the farmers call “grow
ing" spring weather. Vegetation of
every kind has grown very rapidly in
this region during the last tliree days.
Home proposes to have the great
military festivities of the year, so far as
Georgia is concerned. The Romans
are taking great interest in the affair
and it will be enjoyable to thoso of a
military turn of ntind.
1’kkiiam has tliis to say on the okra
intention: “About ten acres in okra
are planted in and around Quitman.
The Yankees must learn to eat it or
the South will think site has just cause
for another rebellion.’’
The Quitman .Veto South makes the
following report: “The watermelon
crop is verv good in Brooks county, it
is not melon plants now with melon
men, but melon vines. Small truck,
such as potatoes, tomatoes, beans,
squashes and cucumbers are very fine "
The Sandersville Mercury has run up
the names of its candidates; Flower,
of New York, for President; H. D. Mc
Daniel, for Governor; G. T. Barnes,
for Congress; and O. H. Rogers, for
Solicitor-General of the middle circuit.
The next thing in order will bo to get
them nominated.
Blair's Educational Bill.
Banner-Watchman.
Every Southern Senator, when he
voted for tills outrageous measure, be
trayed ltis party ami his |wople, and is
not worthy of their further support.
We believe that it was nothing in the
worldBut an electioneering dodge, and
an infamous parody on light, justice
and the constitution. We look to our
members in the lower house to protect
the South against this onslaught upon
her progress. Wc need every dollar
that ran be drawn from the govern
ment to develop our section, and not
to educate our only labor above the
corn and cotton field. If the Northern
philanthropists, from their own private
purses, see fit to give seventy millions,
or even seventy billious, of money
towards the education of the illiterate
in the South, well and good, but wc do
irotest-against the Southern States
laving any such credits -placed on the
wrong side of the balance sheet at the
National treasury.

Savannah Times.
In view of the fact that the State is
ilejH'ntlent entirely upon the military
spirit of it* citizens for a military force
to reinforce the regularly constituted
authorities, it is the duty of all to aid
our military companies in any enter
