There were ten men to start, viz.: M. Cobb, Ed. Stallings, J. T. Stallings, Ed. Smith, A. A. Rylander, D. E. Lewis, G. "\ Holder, Robert Wheeler, E. L. Gucrry, . K. Allen. Promptly at 3 o’clock, at the word "go,” from the judge's stand, the walkers sprang boldly forward to their work. Messrs. Cobb and Rvlsnder were the favorites at the start. For tbe first two hours, with the exception of Alien, who took tbe lead, ail were about even. At tbts time Wheeler and Ed. Stallings gave up the race.
