MARRIED AT LyST.

Quite a Romantic Marriage.
Miss Mattie McGehee 1* a daughter of Ur.

ago Mr. McGehee sent Miss Mattie to Ilawklua-
Tllle, where the might learn tbo mysteries of
telegraphy, her alater, Mrs. N. P. Buff, being
in charge of the Western Union ofllce at that
place.
It was ty.t long before Mill Mattie bad a
number of Uawhlnsvllle beaux ready to awear
by her, and she soon became the tout of the
village, among the young men who found
favor in her eyes was Mr. Tom. T. Singletary
a very worthy young merchant, but it seems
that Mrs. Buff regarded her sister as yet too
much of a girl to allow any more toan ordi
nary attaanoa being paid to her. lou

Tom forego the pleasure of visiting tbo little

kept up, and both parties began to grow more
anxious. A Sunday came but no gates i
left ajar through which the young lady c
make her exit. There was notblug left for
them but another week’s Interchange of
motes.
And right here Mr. W. L. Cotton, of Macon.

far as to say that Mr. Cotton and Miss MeUt hee
would marry. This rumor was not plessing
Jn format Ion for Mr. Kingletary, but like a true
lover he kept a* place in his heart for Miss
Mattie.
on the morning of the day on which the
Tbi.kcr&pii appeared with Mr. Cotton's ro
mantic engagement with a Savannah young
lady, Mr. Cotton telegraphed to Misa Mattie at
Haaklnsvi 1c that It waa all a mistake, and
not to bollevo it. When this became known,
Tom began to believe that Cotton was en-

Tom and Ms friend walked on behindhand as
they passed the house Tom laid a little note
on the gate. The note merely asked her to go

Will told his friend to go on, and I
ho would make the arrangements. Will
then went in and Miss MatUe oonseuted to go
to ride w ith him after dim er. Will then turn

to drive out to Fine Level where he knew he
