Cabtirsvilli, September 21.—The great gospel tent meeting has ended and the tent is now down. The meeting began to close last night, but man proposes and God dis poses. Ail day yesterday the rain came down steadily and the canvas and ropes were saturated and as a mat ter of conrBO contracted considerably, loosening the pins, and about 6:30 o’clock the stays gave way and the tent began to fall whilst only about two hundred and fifty people were bo- neatb its folds. Although its descent was gradual, tho woman and children could not escape and many were caught. The lamps were all lighted and swinging to the poles and ropes were prostrated to the straw covered ground. A strong wind was blowing and a drenching rain falling at the time of the mishap, bat we are glad to say no ono was seriously hurt, although many were frightened. The tent was considerably injured by being cut to afford egress. gam Jones preached yesterday at 11 o’clock to a large congregation, consid ering the rain. There la supposed to have been in the neighborhood of 4,000 people present. At 2:30 o’clock Sam Small delivered a very inlcresting discourse, which was well received. Mr. Robbins was to have preached at night, but the fall of the tent prevented. Sam Jones will preach in the Metho dist church here to-morrow night and will leave Thursday for St. Joseph, Mo., where he will spend fifteen days. On returning home he will rest a week ' so and go to Birmingham, Ala. Over two hundred conversions and abont seventy-five accessions to the church so far have been the result of .the meeting.
