ICovinoton, September 28.—Newton Superior Court is still in session and will not adjourn beforo tho last of the week. 8overal litigated cases of im portance wero disposed of last week. Ono of these was a suit by I’rof. Joint M. Bonnell, oi Oxford, against tho county, for services rendered in ana lyzing tho stomach and its contents of Steve Morris, who was poisoned by his wife last year, and also in making other nocessary analyses in connection with the case. IIo was suing for $300, and, although the preponderance of testi mony (and that too of some ot the best chemists in the State,) not only sus tained his charges, hut pat tho value of his services at from one thousand to twelve hundred and sixty-five dollars, tho jury returned a verdict for only two hundred and twenty-five dollars. The verdict was a great surprise to those having correct ideas of tho value of skillod labor coupled with personal and professional respon sibility, and by its gross inadequacy illustrates what strange views somo men ltnvo of tho value of such labor. Another ot tbe cases referred to above was a snitagainBt the Georgia Railroad Company for tho value of goods de stroyed by tho burning ot tho depot last October. Tho jury found n verdict against tho railroad company as wnre- housemu upon the idea that thoy had not exercised ordinary diligence in the care of tho goods stored in tho depot, tho evidenco being that tho roof of the building was old and rotten: that then- was a smell ot firo about too building in tho afternoon beforo tho burning at night; that one of tho em ployes of tho company told the depot agent about 9:30 o’clock that night that ho heard somo one in tho depot, and that the agent after making a slight search locked up tho building nnd went home without having a watchman about tho pro mises. Tbero r-re a number ol other similar cases pending against tho rail road company, but they will await the final decision in this case, which will ho taken to the Snprcmo Court. The criminal dockot will be taken up to-day and will furnish business for sovcral days.
