M MIIUAOK Fees—It has been tin among all civilized people Ibr years gone by to remember the ollieiatiug ministers at wedding* 1»y a handsome present. Some times it is bestowed by the happy bride groom, and at others by the father or JiuniJy of the bride, and sometimes by both. This practice has obtained with that other so common, called bridal presents, A- our mingling in the social circle has Id-cu limited in this part ot the country, we are unable to state what i*. the common practice here, but our experience elsewhere has been that the minister never gets a tee in keeping with the social position mid wealth ot the parties united, calitic**, however, the miiii'tcr i repaid. In this connection there occur many ludicrous scenes, and many- funny stories are told. We know of a minister not a thousand miles away, w ho was called upon to cell- brate the bonds of matrimony in a country | ‘ before us by a bciilltccnt Father. To say I the least for it, it is an insult to that henevo. list run leiieo which providetl them. To say that we J cannot enjoy them without being overcome , by them is to give lint littlu credit to our intellectual and moral ability. But there is a bound beyond which pleasure becomes transgression. There are many amusement which are not evil er.i: hi-:, but the evil grows out of thu excess to which they are carried j Many arc positiu-ly forbidden by the moral (code which are not so deleterious to the j physical or mental development of woman j as tiie exec® of-some which are perfectly I innocent in their nature, and which are re ceived and prized in polite circles. Hence I wo‘are brought to remark in the second In many ] place, that exeessnf pleasure has the same handsomely hiHueneeupon woman as the constant In.at j of the stiu upon the flower. For while the sun vivifies and brightens tin* colors of the rose, its excessive heat withers its leave* and ilrics up its fountain of life. S> it is While fhev W ASIIINOl adjourned.
