colored people held at Union Ilall, on the

me, on account of the speech, or remarks,
made by me outlie 18th instant.
This’so-called public meeting was held In
a hall which is thirty-ouo feet nine-inches
by thirty-feet. Perhaps there wero two
hundred and fifty persons present, • Well,
who composed that meeting V I learn that
the greater part—in their unsophisticated
mlulitv—had been made to believo that
my notion was to put them baok into
slavery. This meeting was led on by Bob
Trice and hir satraps, foreign and domestic.
Oh! my country, when I think of tho fiito
of the children of Israel, I tremble for my
people.
At this meeting it was detirmiued that
none of my friends should*bo heard. When *
Mr. Davis tried to speak, he was hissed. Yet
lie would bo heaid, and bis remarks caused
such a division among them that the chair
