Let rs Bfihtar fry Strong Drink.—Wc have received tho fqllowlng through the post Office, and although without, signature, it meets a question which wo have recently discussed with several young men of our city, that it is not hard to locate its origin. Ho remarked that in all bis life time he had nover known n man to reform from drnnkcncBS after he had passed the moridan of life, and had rarely known any to givo up drinking among the young men after they had become habituated to their cups.” Header, have you ever known ono ? “ Let us quit strong drink, such as whisky* rum, gin nnd brandy, nnd if we must take something for tho stomach’s sake, let it be a little lager beer, which is said to lie healthy. Liquor blunts our energies, dulls our mind, unfits us lor doing busincis, it at all, in a proper way, it costs us money that does no good neither to the body or soul, causes us to spend money that we would not, go where we would not, to net ns wo should not, and causes many n one to loose a good business situation. This is the anniversary, selected by tho noble women of the South, to pay tribute to the martyr dead, who yielded up their lives in the defence of tlio “tho lost cause.” On l hat day, tho fair daughters of tho South from the beautiful Potomac to tho tranquill Uio Ciraudo, will assemble at the graves ot our honored mid cherished dead, and yield a heart’s ollering to tlio quiet sleepers, who fell, battling for what they religiously deemed a sacred cause; around the graves of departed worth they will meet, and shed a tear ofsympaty mid sorrow, to keep green the turf o’er tho resting places. ’Tistruo the peaceful sleepers have been proclaimed, by those whom they met, swonl in hand, on crimsoned battle plain, traitors to their country, and we the survivors of tho glori ous struggle, now painfully recognize the laet, that “ the tyrant’s heel is 011 our soil Imt the Words or acts of an ungenerous foe men cannot eradicate from our memory that those ueblo men yielded up tlu-ir lives in our defense,—for our rights, our proper ty, our liberties; mid they most -zealously believed, when charging the scried ranks of th<- nY»rt It man, that they wore justified, iu, the eye of (tod and man, to bathe their swords in the blood of tho foe; for the ex amples set them by tho men of 177(1, incited them to oppose oppression, let it come from foes w ithout or friends within, Let it, then, not be forgotten, that on the -fith day ot tho present month, patriotism and virtue will meet around the graves of the Southern martyr dead, and if not per mitted to speak in eulogistic strains, the i ' — South Georgia an! Under these circumstances, we again onori the subject of tho South Georgia & Florida Railroad, which project finds great nflectioft in our heart. Since we wrote on tho subject last, tho charter has been reconvcyed, by tIn- Atlantic «fc Gulf ltnilrond Company, to the South Georgia <fc Florida Railroad Company, or its representatives, ami there is nothing in the way of organization, but the want ot stockholders. The County of Thomas is authorized to subscribe $200,000, and the Corporation of Thoninsvillo $150,000, which foots up $350,000. It was believed, before tho passago of Sherman’s bill, that the people of both the County and the Town would vote the sums mentioned, when summoned to tho ballot box, mid this summons was about to bo issued, when all our proceedings were estopped by tlio Sherman .Slilitarv Despotism. l r pon the passage of that lull, a new class of voters made their entrance iuto the afena, and having no poworat pres ent to hold ail election, when our shackles arc removed wo shall find that our field for cuiivassing has boon much enlarged. President of tho Atlantic ib Gull Road. | Enterprise. The Thing in a Ant Shell. The New York Times openly proclaims the intentions of the Republicans to disre* gat'd tho decision of the Supreme Court should it be against them on the reconstruc tion bills, mid to go into open rebellion against the law as pronounced by that body. It says, in referring to the movements of Southern Governors to test the constitution ality of their laws: Its (the South’s) pride may bo gratified by a legal assault upon the policy of Con gress, but only incorrigible fools can sup pose that policy will be materially hindered or on any pending question reversed, by an appeal to the Courts. The refusal of Judge Martin, of the Superior Court of Haltiinore, to grant tho injunction, prayed for by the Maryland Radicals, to prevent the meeting of the State Convention, proceeds on the hypothesis that the Convention is a political body of which tho State Legislature had pi-operand exclusive cognizance. l»y a party of reason, mid with tliei dent of the decision in the 44 Dorr rebellion” ease to sustain it, the Supreme Court may not unreasonably be expected to disclaim jurisdiction in the premises. At any rate, tile fact is incotitestible, that Congress has absolute mastery over the subject. JW no appeal to the Courts, by no quibble of law- yors, by no combination or effrontery of Southern politicians, can this fact be over come. A denial of it theoretically will not affect it practically. And tho supremacy ot Congress will continue, despite petitions for injunctions or averments of uncunstitu- tionality. Its power to carry out its will is already’ assured. Neither the President nor the lawyers can compel its admission of Southern representatives, its acknowledge ment of State Governments which it has de creed provisional, or its abatement of one iota ol the conditions which it lias imposed upon the South. Hero we have it openly proclaimed that the will of the majority is the supreme law and that the majority lias made arrange ments to carry out its will, by forco if ne cessary.
