On -yostnlay morning, about daybreak,
tbt* stable of Dr. B. J. Hoad was discover
ed to be tui fire, and the same, with contents,
was very soon consumed, and with it a sta
ble adjacent belonging' to Mr Boon. A
very valuable horse was destroyed by the
biirningol Dr. Head's stable. The fire is
believed to be the net of an incendiary.

A Miss.— Some six sold ires, of ahe gar
rison here, iu the lower iiart ot the city,
styled lately Moceason Sluice or Buzzards
Boost, Saturday night came across a party
of negroes who were dancing with some low
white woman. The soldiers made remarks,
jostled around considerably, itud a general
melee ocurred, brick bats were used freeh
and the “Blues” gained the field but quick

dently tempered by his recent experience in

for two days past. The meeting dispersed

warehouses over six thousand bales of cot
ton. It is estimated that over half this
amount belongs to planters. At an average
of twenty cents per pound this cotton is
in the neighborhood of 8300,000. ()t her

thousand bales will be received here before
the season closes. Wo certainly have a lit
