As it was, somo members denounced the President as “contumacious;” others as serted that he was “defiantand a resolu tion was hastily passed by tho House, “for bidding the President to removo 1 district Commanders without the consent of the Senate, unless the General commanding the armies so recommends.” Willi our present meagre telegraphic information, we cannot seo now it was proposed to accomplish any thing by such a resolution as this. It could not have been a joint resolution, which alone has the force of a law, (and eveu a law of Congress cannot set aside a constitutional provision), for it does not appear to have passed both houses, and indeed could not, •or the lack ot time, have passed both houses and been repassed over a veto. So it bears the appearance of a mere menace to the Pre sident, showing that the House understood the intimations in the Message and wished to threaten the President with a lively ex perience next winter if lie should venture to carry them into oiled. The impeaehers rallied in stronger force than ever after this Message was transmitt ed.. For the first time, they secured a ma jority ill favor of action by the Houses on tlia impeachment testimony. Hut in this, too, they made n showing only ot their im- potenee or the weakness of their cause.— Stevens taunted tin? House witli itsiuuhility toimpeacli the President, declaring “there are v.nhkkv agencies at work, there nro in visible powers at work in this country, that will prevent impeachment.” Wilsonj chair man oft he impeachment committee, thing by this insinuation, denied the imputation and declared that “no amount, ot political pressure should turn him aside from hisdis- charge of duty to the law and tho facts.”— "Hie House, taking him at his word, ordered him to report, hut the telegraph informs us that Wilson “trifled over the matter until the Speaker's hammer fell lor adjournment ” until the *JIst of November. | Columbus Enquirer. Too many people in the houtli have been brought up to he waited upon; They must now tie their own shoes, and I repeat that the sooner they begin the better it will be. I know that many think they can escape this state of things by going to Hra/.il or some other out-of-the-way place; but toil is the common lot of the poor man the world over, so far ns I have seen, and in no part otthe world is toil so remunerative as in the Southern Slates of America.
