A SnNsiBLn FnasnwAK.—A correspom dent of tho Now York Time* recently had a conversation with Beverly Nadi, a colored inan of Columbia, who thus delivered hint self on the subject of oleoting Yankoo ndvon- tnren to office in tho South. Speaking of his own race, ha as; a t “We wonld rather have white people that have lived ampng us than stronger*. Wo an feeling so almost unanimously. They know that good men don’t oorao South—tnoy have bus iness at homo; and, from what we havo seen those that oome an adventuren, with both hands open, like birds of prey." [from Ika Washington Constitutional Union.] Klag Jifca. John Pope, one of the fivo American tnon aroha, and King of Goorgia, Alabama and Florida, has issued hi* Royal Kdict No. 49. Had any one predicted Are years ago that a person would bo clothed witli authority or placed in a position to isaue such an order in thisoountry, would have been aooountcd fit only for a lunatic assylum; but now, so far fVom that, we are becoming accustomed to such things, and aro bowing our necks under the imperial yoko with all due submission. King John, when he was nothiug but a General, had bis “Headquarters in tho M^joi in Atlanta, and wields a sceprnover a realm embracing what some pcoplo are simple ... - ...simple enough to believe are “throe States of this Union," to-wil: Georgia, Alabama and Florida. In those States newspapers are printed, and people, to make thciV 'business known advertise in thci • Some young men come to “cht a dash,” 1 them ; civil officers are also in tho habit of informing, through theso papers, the pooplo of the timo and plaoe of public meetings in which they are interest ed. The ediot No. 49, from His Majesty, King John, directs that these olvll officers must publish their advertisements in n cer tain oUss of newspaper*—those fit vorable to th« Congressional policy of Reconstruction, and he instructs all military officers, of what over degree, grade, or stylo of service, to ace that this-ediot Is strietly' ehforoed, and io promptly arrest and roport the slightest vl olation of it. King John has, in reality no such power and authority. It is an assumption of des potism which no absolute monarch in the world, except one of the Fivo Amerioau Monarch*, would dare think of tor a mo ment. It would ooet the Kingdom and Throne of the Mightiest ruler in tho Uni verse to attempt such ad abridgement of the People’s Rights. How long will the Ame rican people submit to such things ? Can’t they see the inevitable tondenoy of suoh sub mission ? What has beoome of the “Spirit ot’78f” The quioker King Jolim* throne crumbles to thedust the better it will be Ibr the country. _ lerof Gen. pope in. regard- rtisements, deprive* Us of n fthe patronage wo havo hitter' io received in the way of advertising, and to a very oonsiderablo extent cripples us in our financial aflairs; yet by laborious effort in our temporary embarrassment, and by the assistance of our patrons and friends, wc hope we' shall be able to weather the storm and keep above tho waves which threatcu to overwhelm us. We are In ignorance as to the nature of the sin that we have committed to render us obnoxious to the powers that be, yet wc are assured wo know not on what authority that wo are positively disloyal, fearfully guilty, and we submit gracefully, knowing that to question authority now, it to be considered insolent and rebellions. We have carefully refrained from endors ing the views either of those who favor or those who oppose the holding of a conven tion, not that we had not formed an opinion in regard to the political questions of the day, but because of.an unwillingness to in trude our views on those who were as capa ble as ourselves of directing their action ac cording to the diotate* of an enlightened judgment. We have preferred to meet is sues as they were raised, and not anticipate them. In order however that onr friends may un derstand our position, we now declare that WX ASU IlEARTIl,V OPPOSED TO THE SIKBTIN'Q or a ooirvEETioif, and on tho grounds net forth in Mr. Hill’s speech in Atlanta. In futnro we shall pursue the same plan whloh wc have adopted in tho past, and shall fearlessly and earnestly recommend, ns issues may arise, that course which is most compatible with adbsranoe t e tho Constitu- tion, the best interests of the pooplc ol tho South, and thodefoat and annihilation of the Radical party. Wo call upon our friouds to roily to our support, increase onr subscription list, ad vertlse liberally; and wo assure them that if they will help us now, in this our time of need, they will onable us to live through tho present crisis, and wo shall continue to ad vocate their interest in spite of Bureau offi cers and military orders. Bxeoutors, Administrators nnd Guardians will please remember that their advertise ment*, though sometimes sent in through the Ordinaries, arc subject to their own con trol, and may be published in the advertis ing medium of their own choice. Yntxow Sur.rmm Bprinos, Ya. 1 Angnst lath, 1867. ( Mr. Editor :—The quiet that pervades this place is very suggestivo and apDropri- "ate for meditation. And one of the thoughts that havo annoyed me no little in, why do peoplo go to the springs ? It seems simple within itself, but viewing it from this stand point, it ismars difficult of solution. I took the Ubertyofinterrogating a number of per sons to-day upon this subject. Almost eve ry ouCafgiied'h'difnrent roaqou- An old gray haired man replied: “I havo been toil ing for yoara, and I have seen the fruit* of my labor swept away in tho Inst few years; what I now have, I intend to enjoy." An olderly lady exclaimad ; “The Joys of home have departed—tho kin* oi tho household were carried away by the war—my daugh ters are married—my husband preoeeded into that ’paM realm boyond,’ and with this grandchild, I havo sought to smooth *hc rr- nnd total boom'd vory silly talk to some very silly young Indy. Home come to. convince the world of tbeir exceeding fino financial abilities—to show how a clerk, with a very moderate salary, can oul-dress his employer nnd havo more ready cash than anybody else. And not untrequcntly they come to show off somebody clscs good clothes. So much have I learned by being at tho springe; and why I am here may bo asked, but cer tainly it is of no consequence, and if I must roply, I oome to see what iools and carica ture* ot humanity that fashion makes of men and women, and not among the least of these do I rank myself. Enough of this speculation. Tho crowd at this place is increasing slowly and we have a fair sprinkle of beauty, wit and in telligence. Tho entertainments are splen did, nnd our inlcroourso tho most pleasant. I have been examining tho market sinco my Inst, and it would compare favorably with any In middle or South-west Georgia. Wo have tho finest beef at six cents per pound; the fattest mutton at two dollars per head; the largest chickqps at fifteen cents each; butter, equal to any goshen, from twelve and a-lialf to fifteen cents per pound ; eggs ten cents per doxen; board, outsido the springs betel, at the very best houses, soventy-fi vo cents per day, nnd every thing found. An my frioml across the table says, it is cheaper staying hero than at home. The other day, I .went in company with others, to the village of Christianburgb, some four miles distant, nnd whilo there wc heard a radical speech, by ono Moss, of the Iioiinicutt school. It was the same old hnrrnnguc cut anil dried by tbeir great mas ter. Tho effort of this sunburnt Moss, so far ns I could discern, foiled to make muoli of nn impression. However, it was report' oil to Richmond ns a grand demonstration and uprising of tho people, but I am confi dent that there was not exceeding twenty white men in tho houso at any one time while I remained, nnd not more than fifty negroes. But it has become so natural for theso scamps to lio that one can almost for- givo them whon they follow in tho wake of thoirfuthcr, for neeording to Holy writ lie was a liar from the beginning. The old Commonwealth groans under her disgrace, but is hopeful yet that she can vor- rlfy the truth of her motto, “Sic Semper Tyronnus." HILLY.
