AYo an* indebted to a laily friend for tlio
following tnost touching extract from a let
ter written by a dying wife to her husband,
which was found by him some months after
her death, between the leaves of a religions
volume which she was very loud of perusing.
The letter, which was literally dim with tear
marks, was written long before lhe husband
was aware that the grasp of a fatal disease
had fastened upon the lovely form of his de
voted wife, who died, it is stated, at the ear
ly age of nineteen. It shows how fathomless
is the depth of a true woman's a fleet ions:
“When this shall reach your eye, dear
G , some day when von tire turning over
the relies of the past, f shall have passed
nwny forever, anti the cold, while stone be
keeping its lonely watch over the lips you
have so often pressed, and the sod will be
growing that shall bide forever from your
sight the dust of one who lias so often nestled
close to ydur warm heart. For many long
and sleepless nights, when nil my thoughts
were at rest, I have wrestled with the con
sciousness of approaching death, until at last
it hits forced itself upon my mind; and al
though to youji ml to others it might seem
but t lie nervous imagination of a girl, yet,
dear <1., is it not so ? Many weary, weary
hours have I passed in the endeavtu to re-
oneile myself to leaving you, whom I love
0 well, and this "bright world of sunshine
and beauty; and hard indeed is it to tttrug-
glc on silently alone, with the sure convic
tion that I ant about to leave till forever and
ro down alone into the dark valley ! ‘Dut
1 know in whom I have trusted,’and leaning
upon His arm *1 lear no evil.’ Don’t blame
me for keeping all this even from you. How
could I subject you, of all others, to Pitch
sorrow as 1 feel at parting, when time will
soon make it apparent to you ? 1 could have

III domestic happiness, the wffe’s influence
is much* greater than tlio husbands; for the
