ALBANY, GA.,* SEPT. I7tli, 1807
Executors, Administrators and Guar
Gians, who sometimes send in advertise
ments through the Ordinary of their respec
tive counties, have entire control of the
same, ami can publish them in the paper of
their choice. They will bear this in miml.
Such notices must be accompanied with the
cash. Price can be ascertained from the
t Ordinary of counties—who have our adver
ted rates in their office.
President Johfison is said i«» be
highly elated with the Democratic* ietory
in C'aliornia, and predicts similar results at
the elections in the Atlantic States. The
latest returns from them show Democratic
majorities in the Legislature, and-tims cut
ting oil*all probability <»f« republican Semi-
to succeed Conncss.

last Friday night Pol. .1. D. \\ addcll, ol
IN.Ik County, in getting otVtlie train here
lell from the platform and aeeeived a pain
ful, though it is hoped not very serious in
jury, We think there should be lights there
a hm the train comes in, in order to secure
safety t.i passengers.
Kkmvai.Mkkiimi. A protracted meet
ing has been in progress in the Methodist
Church in this city during the past week
ami willprohaly continue for several days
longer. < >11 last Sunday afternoon eight
converts were received into lull communion
with the church, and two were received by
letter.
1‘oi'K vs. Sk'KI.kk.—Those, says the
Springfield Ifepuhlicaii, who consider it «
patriotic duty to approve all the acts of all
the district commanders find the job rather
difficult; for instance: General Sickles issued
an order, having the force of a stay law, to
postpone the collect ion of debts on event-
1 ion. General Pope was asked to issue a
similar one in Georgia, and lie not only re-
liised, but declared, “No eoneeivable eir-
eiimslauee could induce me to interfere with
I he general business of the State.” As hot It
(u ncials cannot be right ill this ease those
who approved Sickles’order had better say
nothing about Pope.
Tiii.nkinu Aiioi t It.—Prior to the Cali
fornia elect ion ami recent heavy losses in
Vermont and Maine, ttadleal journals
North and South, were blatant for the abso
lute lights of the majority and the total ex
tinction of the privileges of the minorit y.—
They do not pipe on so high a key, since
t he Great Jteaetioii has been proved some
thing more suhstcnlial than a delusion. Six
or eight months hence, all the U'idieal pa
pers North and South, will lie clamorous
lor ilie very rights they recently attempted
to destroy or deny. We hope the Conserva*
t ives will give them a chance to be beard;
though it is of universal application that
only the nolile, though misguided, can ap
preciate favors magnanimously bestowed.
Kiiom Kow k. We clip the following
items from the Dome Courier, of last week:
lloMU'toK.—A negro in the employment
nf t ini. Cummings, oft his county, was whip
ping his wife one day last mouth, w hen she
seized an axe, and inflicted such a Idow on
his head, that he -died last Friday night
from the effects ot It.
l.r.vviNu.—We understand that Col. ft.
II. Ilo ward, who has been attending to
!•’reed moil’s Bureau a flairs of this district,
has received an appointment in the Mb
Cuited States Artilery, and is ordered to re
port at Fortress Monroe at once. He will
leave next week for his new field of labor.
Who his successor will be we know not, but
suppose it w ill be some officer ol the regular
army in appliance with orders from Gener
al Grant published elsewhere.
Mosky OitoKitH.—Our postmaster is pre
pared to supply all w ith these orders win*
may have occasion to transmit money. It
is c( rtainly a safe and prompt way ol send
ing small amounts to distant jjpints.
We adverted, the other day, to the
effect that the refusal to adopt the anti-con-
tiseatioli resolutions offered in the L'adical
Convention of North Carolina was having
in t'lat Stale. The Kaicigh Register, Radi
cal paper, whoso editor acted a prominent
put in the Convention, says: “The rejec
tion of these resolutions, and the spirit man
ifested by the speakers, awakened a feeling
of a profound distrust in the minds of loyal
white men,and there is reason to believe
that it will alienate them entirely from an
organisation which lifts given such strong
indications of indifference, if not hostility,
to their rights and interests.”
And the Sentinel a Conservative paper of
the same city, says of the rrsolutisns adopt
ed] by tho Convention: We hear of freque t
expressions of indignant repudiation ot
them by white and colored men, who have
heretofore acted with the individuals who
controlled that Convention. We can name
• many such in this city. The line of demar
cation his l* 01 ! strictly drawn now, and we
are glad of it.”
Wo rather snspect that the results of cer
tain redan* election* have also somethi g to
do with afiojolmdge* reported in North Car
olina. Snid results are “stirring up the ani
mals” here at quite a lively rate.
Stiiosibi:
announce the death of this excellent man
and eitr.cn, which occurred on Saturday last,
on bis plantation near our city. The com*
tnunity has lost a good citizen, and the
neighborhood a good man, and the poor a
benefactor. lie was buried in our cemetery
on last Sunday.
Our community is growing poorer. The
increase of deaths among our prominent fit"
izens, during the past few months have
been fearful. We have lost,. in tho past
year, Dr. Hardwick, C. W. Rawson, Ksq.,
Dr. Chan Hill, Ferry Duncan, Ksq., Col.
Kd. T. Jones,and now J. I*. Strozier, all ol
whom were men of prominence, and their
loss is severely foil, by tho community.
rar 'I ’lie New Orleans papers says that
the beautifn tropical fruit, flic banana, may
be seen growing in almost every garden of
that city. They state that the growth of
bananas in New Orleans, has greatly in
creased during the last, few years, and there
are no killing frosts, the people need iio
longer depend on Cuba and the tropical re*.
gioiiH for a supply.
“Andrew Johnson’s l*ito« i.amation,
respecting the cnlbicement of the laws in
the<’aiolinas is nothing hut stage thunder.
It has no meaning and will have no effect.”
So says the New York Tribune of the r»th
instil lit. That, the proclamation had a
“meaning” and is having an “effect,” is
clearly shown by I ho way it is making the
“fur lly” among the Radicals. They all
hi|iiiin under it. And the very effort to
prove that it amounts to nothing is strong
testimony that it amounts to a great deal.—
The attempt to “whistle it down,” is too
transparent. It will fail, and the “effect”
will be greater on account of such a super
fieial attempt.
2-W” The Columbus, Ohio, Crisis says:
“Thin?. Sti veils denouncing John Sherman’s
speech at Canton ns worse than Copperhead
ism, must involve a now definition of “loyal
ty.” It is also a racy illustration of the har
monious condition oflhe Jacobin taction.—
John Sherman a Copperhead ! The epithet
will lose its respectability,”
-W The editor of ail Ohio paper says
that the heavens were black one day last
week, with wild geese flying South, and eon
sequently presages that winter will he here
in September.
Dikii,—On Friday morning, tho 1 :ttli
inst. at his residence in Forsyth,Rev. WIL
LIAM G ALLEN, a member of tho North
Georgia l'<inference, Methodist Church
South.
That Ciikhm Gamk.—The New York Tri
bune says the President and Grant are play
ing a game of chess. The President, has
captured Oraul’s threo strongest pieces—
Stanton, Sheridan and Sickles. Grunt has
made one or two cheeks, hut the President,
has avoided them, and swept Grant’s best
men oil* the hoard.
TiikToii.uvoChoi*.—The Danville Reg
ister says that the accounts it has received
as to the “condition to the tobacco crop
upon the hill are unfavorable.” The season
has been inauspicious. The excessive rains
have prevented tho Pittsylvania tobacco
from i Spoiling bright and yellow. Fair
weather for tho next few weeks may, how
ever, produce a favorable change if pre-
mat me frosts do not interfere with the
ripening process. The crop in Caswell
county, North Carolina, is more forward
than of Pittsylvania, and has been consider
ably damaged by the same cause, and in ad
dition by the “black spot.” The Register
says:
While the prospects of a fine crop of to
bacco this season are anything hut. flatter-

least put a bright face upon tho fields of

ooratlo government
is a vital issue, and it would no umy io ex
pect any stability in values so long 1 as it re-
mains unsettled. But no matter which
party is in, the finances of the country’ are
bound to be in a ftato of derangement for a
time to cotnc. We have no hesitation in
saying that tho sooner this irredeemable
Federel currency is broken down—an event
that will occurjon the first movement to
wards a specie basis tor the circulating me
dium, the only true one—greenbacks will
commence their downward tendency, and
scon decline, like Continental scrip into
nothingness. This will damage the rich,
hut it will at the same timo pay the poor
out of debt.
As regards this whole question of paying
off the public liabilities in greenbacks, or
legal tender notes, we consider it only a de
cent name for repudiation.
