Smith has just nude extensive improvements on his livery stables. Mr. W. N. Hall will soon make another addition to the Hall Ho¬ tel, he now has to rent rooms to accommodate his guests, and still they come. Our genial Sheriff, S. J. Wil¬ liams, is erecting a nice residence on North Main St. thats right Sam help us keep the town building Mr. W. S. Pretorius is also building a nice house on South Main St. Now Will that is the proper thing to do: fix the “Cage” then catch the bird. This Spring will wituess more building in Statesboro than ever before; just watch and see if we are not correct. Do you know that Bulloch coun¬ ty has quite a number of inven¬ tors in her borders? George Davis has a Shingle mill of merit, vv. D. Davis has the best cotton gin on the market, and now comes J. A. Pinkston with a cot¬ ton chopper that will doubtless prove a success. All these are Bulloch county inventions. Mr. Steve Blackburn has also invented a bed lock that is a nov¬ elty in its line. Oh! listen to the music, of the hammer and the saw. EXCELSIOR DOTS. Mr. Editor:- I have abandoned TTBhfarming projects, and have dt fermined'to set about a brief com¬ mentary upon the historical parts of Bulloch county, for the use of the A liance. The importance of such a work must be at once obvi¬ ous. If there is anything of which the citizens of Bulloch county can justiyfeelproud.it is tiie Excel¬ sior High School. We see on every hand evidences of the vast good it is accomplishing. It is preparing young men aud young ladies in a thorough and efficient manner, for the stern realities of life. What work is nobler? What mission higher? The closing of the first month of the present year last Friday was watched by the pupils and patrons with marked interest. The following pupils were on the roll of honor: Willi 0 Deekle, Miss Annie Darsey, John Everett, Jodie L. Duncan, Oscar J. Franklin, J. A. Jones, Willie B. Jones and J imps B. Olliff. Rev. (’. H. Spurgeon lias indeed gone to his rest, he bore the insignia of a crucified Saviour too manifestly to leave any doubt as to his union with him.
