The new city council held their first meeting on Tuesday night. They assembled in the Superior Court room. There was a spirited contest on for the 1 place of Mar¬ shal, the candidates being Messrs. J. Z. Kendrick, W. H. DeLoach and Joseph F. Olliff, all of whom appeared before the board. The ballot resulted in the election of Mr. Olliff. The vote standing; Olliff 3; Kendrick, 1; DeLoach, 1, Mr. Kendrick served the city for several years and bis record in that capacity is quite a satisfactory one Mr. DeLoach has served as Mar¬ shal during the present year. Mr. Olliff took oharge this morning. Mr, W. H. Ellis was re-elected Re¬ corder without opposition. Mr. J. G. Blitch was elected Mayor, pro tern. Messrs. J. L. Olliff and W. H.
