’Tis sweet., but oh, how false! when

Now to the point i wish mainly to
touch upon, being the subject ox fe-rtii-
zers:
The lirah-rs iu guano saw proper, sev
eral years ago, to throw down tliegaue'-
iet to farmers to take Cotton iu puymenr
thereof, but now that they have ridden
the poor old ass till his bade is too sore
to wariatit 1 lie .same profit (peil'mps the
Dutchman’s), they propose to place the
poor old fellow with the other side np
h'Mflii % to a frazzle, or to such a
nice point of poverty that hu caiinot
even as much as open his mouth in re-
monsl runco.
'Tis true wo have boon on t-nsy-going
set of fellows, ready and willing to do
anything, sign anything, and believe
iinything that merchants, guano deal
ers, horse traders, or even a big black
“nigger” would tell ns. To a certain
ext.-ut we are so yet, though j>erL»p»
with less ability to comply.
For instance a laborer says he cannot
work for less than MB of every Satur
day, fu l rations, two acres of extra h nil
and from seventy-five to one hundred
dollars a year.
A. reasons with himself awhile and
says he cannot, pay it, but hope tells
him cotton will be worth ten or twelve
cents a pound next fall, and besides he
understands Mr. B. is offering that
price, so he promises to give if, not
stopping to consider whether Mr. B. is
an intelligent nnd responsible business
man, or one of the old over-ridden
asses.
Tims we. have drifted down, down,
down in and by’ a false and uncertain
current which each and all of us claim
somebody else star ed. The truth is
we have been false to onr own interest
and welfare, false to ourselves, and I
was going to say, false to everybody
else, while bandied by others with an
improvidence which should make us
burn wit a shame to think of. The gu
ano dealers think and have c.mse to
feel that we need guanos, else, they
would not m solemn convention con
vened (a handful of meu), have the pro
sumption to undertake to dictate then-
own terms, contrary to any known law
of commerce; And shall we submit- to
it still, or sbatl we hurl him off and
bury him in bis owu m xt ire, or
leach him how nice it is to be a pack ass
himself? From Ibis on let us place our
selves behind our ow-n breastworks and
man onr guns against the impious and
presumptions lasso siiigers.
In the first place the class of cotton
now and heretofore exasted of us is too
high, there being only about one-tenth
of the crop of that grade. Though as
it is tight on oil, in consequence A low
prices, nobody was disposed to ^ raise a
verv big row about that. But they are
not satisfied with their own arrange
ment and with one imposition, hat seek
to change the whole programme and
place still others upon us. It ioc®s. a
little like a monk, y and cat affair, for
they propose a sort of round-abont ar
rangement hoping their intentions may
not be closely scrutinized. For in
stance they fix the amount of cotton at
500 pounds middling, and then make a
difference in the price of the class of
cotton exacted and that generally lions

Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
P AIN in the right side, under the
edge of the ribs, increases on pres
sure; sometimes the pain is in the left
side; the patient is rarely able to lie
on the left- side; sometimes the pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in die arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; ihe head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied with a painful sen-
sadon of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been done.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
w-eariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a prickly sensa
tion of the skill; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise w-ould be beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLane’s Liver Pills, in
cases of Ague and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bilious derangements, and as
a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
