THE LEGAL ADVERTISING.
The Fort Valley Mirror replies with
a good deal of feeling to'our inoffensiue
little article of last week on the above
subject. We distinctly announced
that ‘we did not blame the Sheriff for
removing his advertising,” and we
Wonldn’t give fifty dollars, to secure its
return.
It is a well known fact that The TT.-mw
Journal has never allowed its editori
als colames to sapport the present
Sheriff or any other officer previous to
nomination, with the understanding or
expectation of receiving the advertis
sing of his office. The Mirror was
candid enough to openly admit itself
gnilty of such motives in an editorial
artical just previous to the last nomina
tion, which article wonld have done its
candidate very great”* injnry, but for
the very small circulation it had out
side its own post office. It filled the
Sheriff himself with alarm, and became
at once to us and asked us not to notice
it, and we did not notice it because
we thought it a very small affair any
way, and we did not desire to use oar
edifcrial columns either to help or in
jure any candidate. It will be remem
bered that the first aggressive move
ment to monopolize the legal adverti
sing of the county was made by the
former editor of the Mirror, and he had
quite a spirited controversy with the
Ordinary, The present proprietor of
the Mirror renewed a simular contro
versy in a personal interview with the
Tax Collector who dont seem inclined
•to be bulldozed by threats of appeal--
ing to Judge Simmon’s or any other
man. Notwithstanding these.facts the
Mirror assumes a tone of injured inno-
cense and accuses us of wai ting all.
Why. dear Sir, we no doubt could
have long ago had all by the same
means you use to obtain a part, if it be
that your editorial support was what
gave and retained you the Sheriff’s pat
ronage.
We are sorry that friend Bnrr so far
lost his temper last week as to indulge
m a little fling at Perry, because he felt
nettled at the mere statement in The
Home Journal that no donbt the Sher-
ifl would bring his advertising back to
this paper if the people desired it; We
know the good people of his own town
will not indorse him, for the silly local
prejudices of the past have been al
most entirely buried, and some of onr
very best personal friends are citizens
of Fort Valley, Bnt our people will
uot allow his childish taunt to revive
the old hostility.
Let it be distinctly understood that
we don’t claim a light to the Sheriff’s
or any other advertising, but from the
expression of the people to us, we be
lieve it would be the pleasure of a very
large majority of the county to have
the legal advertising done in our paper.
We would be more than willing to sub
mit the question to them at the next
election, not so much because we be
lieve they world decide in our favor,
but because they ought to hnve some
voice in the matter; and such an impor
tant thing as the legal advertising of
the co- n y ought to be left to them, and
not lie a subject corrupt barter and
sale by the conntv officials, as it is in
8 >uie conuties.
But the next election is in the fur
future, so the best way to settle the
matter would be to agree to a special
election at an early day, put up pledges
of compliance wiili the verdict of the
people, and have the matter settled at
once.

Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
P AIN in the right side, under the

side; the patient is rarely able to lie
on the left side; sometimes the pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part. There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied with a painful sen
sation of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been done.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant The patient complains of
weariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a prickly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise would be beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLane’s Liver Pills, in
cases of Ague and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bilious derangements, and as
a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
