Respect for parliamentary law will not agree to let us drop oar discussion with onr neighbor, the Mirror, without a few calm remarks. Onr friend seems to have entirely dropped the main issue, and complains that we erroneously and Unfairly interpreted his article of the 7 th in two minor points, in hinting that be was out of hnmor, and that he indulged in a fling at Ferry. TVe were j certainly poor enough “judge of lan guage” to think that his remark that we “must recollect that Perry does not constitute Houston county by a consid erable,” and the context, betokened “a good deal of feeling,” and was intended to prejudice us in the minds of people of certain sections of the eonnty, and our comments were to counteract aDy effect that statement might have had. We are glad our interpretations were not true, although they seemed very conclusive at the time. We endeavored to confine ourself to the record of the Mirrors own columns; and wp must disclaim any desire to injure its busi ness relations, as wj only intended to neutralize its remark’s by our com ments thereon, apd prevent any injury to ourself. As to the insinuation of our readiness to “rnp with the hounds or hide with the hare,” while we do not take a par tisan interest in nominations, the peo ple of Houston know that'we never yet wore two faces, and that we have often editorially and personally exerted our self for our party when directly con trary to one individual interest. But that seemed to be only retort left to our neighbor on that point—so we must excuse it. Lastly, the Minor seeming sick the so-called controversy, darkly, per haps sul-furionsly hints at some out side channel to discuss the point. We are too poor a “judge of the meaning of language” to tell whether he prefers ijt dis.euss.ed in a debating society, dipideitbya game of “humble psg,” or wjtjt pop gun’s loaded with blank cartridges. He must excuse ns from making» Cox-AIslon affair of this, as there i;s an insurmountable obstacle in the way, besides a want of inclination and malice on our part. Nevertheless, if friend Burr wants to resort to “trial "by combat,” let bun send bis challenge, and we will select appropriate and harmless weapons. We shall certainly not assassinate him when be -comes over to the Library Exhibition to.-jnur- iuw night.. A TORPID LIVER is the fruitful eource of many diseases, promi, sent among which are DYSPEPSIA, SICK-HEADACHE, COSTIVENESS, DYSENTERY, BILIOUS FEVER, AGUE AND FfVER, JAUNDICE, PILES, RHEUMATISM,'KIDNEY COM* PLAINT, COLIC, ETC. SYMPTOMS OF A TORPID LIVER. Loss of Appetite and Uansea, the bowels are costive, but sometimes alternate with looseness, Pain in the Head, accompanied Symptoms of a Diseased Liver. P AIN in the right side, under the edge of the ribs, increases on pres sure; sometimes the pain is in the left side; the patient is rarely able to lie on the left side; sometimes the pain is felt under the shoulder blade, and it frequently extends to the top of the shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken for rheumatism in the arm. The stomach is affected with loss of appe tite and sickness; the bowels in gen eral are costive, sometimes alternative with lax; the head is troubled with pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy sensation in the back part. There is generally a considerable loss of mem ory, accompanied with a painful sen sation of having left undone some thing which ought to have been dene. A slight, dry cough is sometimes an attendant. The patient complains of weariness and debility; lie is easily startled, his feet are cold or burning, and he complains of a pri.kly sensa tion of the skin; his spirits are low; and although he is satisfied that exer cise would be beneficial to him, yet he can scarcely summon up fortitude enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts every remedy. Several of the above symptoms attend the disease, but cases have occurred where few of them ex isted, yet examination of the body, after death, has shown the liver to have been extensively deranged. AGUE AND FEVER. Dr. C. McLane!s Liver Pills, in «ase» of Ague and Fever, when taken with Quinine, are productive of the most happy results. No better cathartic can be used, preparatory to, or after taking Quinine. We would advise all who are afflicted with tbif disease to give them a fair trial.
