This will be good news to the ladies, who can thus get seats at any time, and view the horses, stock, etc., without intrusion or being uncomfortably crowded. Every day brings words of cheer from different sec tions, in fact there is more than double the interest taken by the country at largo than ever befor e. Although the present association is fully capable of carrying out its plans, many new mem- bers from different parts of the county are being admitted. Next week we will publish tho rales, list of officers, super intendents of departments, judges, etc., and all other necessary information abont the fair. Let every citizen in the county send something for exhibition and let ns have a grand social reunion of the people. PERSONAL. Mr T. J. Cater returned from New York Tuesday, after, a brief but pleasant-trir. Mrs. Cater and Miss Florence also re-, turned from the Springs. We are glad to hoar of Mrs. C’s improved health, We were pleased to meet Mr. Chos. E. Campbell, of the firm of Campbell & Jones, in Perry on Tuesday. Our Postmaster, Senator Lamar, is one of tho happiest pappies in the State, if it is a girl. Fletcher Cater left for New York the other day, and is now buying a fine stock of fall and winter goods- He will be back in a day or two. Mayor Killen, Jr., has arrived, and weighs ten pound, but we cant take the responsibility of telling Lis name yet. The sterling firm of John Henry & Son, Hawkinsville, will have something to say to our readers next week. presiding. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Dauiei i/osey, formerly United States-colored-troops-fonght-nobly no toriety, then of Freedman’s Bureau fame, who for several years has been teaching the colored “idea how to shoot,” shook the dust of our city off his feet lust Tuesday night, without so much as even bidding bis landlord adieu. The centre of attraction of our town now is Houser Bros’. Store. They have just opened a large lot of every thing usually kept in a first-class house, and that’s the place to see the la-, dies. * Cotton is coming in quietly. Re ceipts up to date about 150 bales. Se! ling to-day good middling 10J. We suggested last week that you send Brunson, Joel Mann orsome other man up, to camp one and talk up the fair, and see a notice posted that the former will be here on tho 12th from 2 till 5 o’clock A. M. Guess by that he exi ects to camp out sure enough. We have heard of a few cases of diptheria in our vicinity, None have proved fatal. If it wasn’t for tho trains passing seven or eight times a day our place would be as dull as Ferry Bosfuriasus. Obituary.—Little Green Holt Hill, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Hill, died last Thursday evening after a brief illness. He was nearly four years old, and his little life had been a source of great happiness to his parents and sis ters. He was bright beyond his years; and inexpressibly sad was the hour, when at twilight, his spirit took its flight from earth and those who loved him so fondly. But he is now safe from all trouble and barm. He is irre vocably sealed for “that bright realm where all is peace and joy and love.”— It is the will of “Him who doeth all things well.” * * * Our Schools.—Houston Female Col lege and Perry Male School have both opened with increased attendance, and good prospects for large additions. We may well hope that the educational in terests of Perry are now abont to be appreciated and permanently built up. Let onr people unite and support our schools, for nothing else can so improve our town morally, intellectually and so cially. We must have schools of the very highest order, that our children csn.be educated under home influences, and pupils from a distance may be brought here to reap tneir advantages. How to get up an Exhibit.—Many people say they have nothing to show at onr county fair. If they will take the premium list and from it set down every article they have that would probably excel others, almost any family would soon hare quite a creditable little list. There is scarcely a family that does not take especial pride in something they have, and it is little trouble to brash it up and bring it to the fair. We know several that can make considera bly over a hundred entries each, and no person in the county but has some one thing worth showing. Try this plan. Death op Mb. Yandigbiff.—Mr. W. C. Vandigriff, of Newton county, who has been building cement tombstones at our cemetery for some time, died at Mrs Etheridge’s, where he was hoarding Saturday morning of congestion. He had been confined to his bed but a short time, but had been complaining of be ing unwell for several days. His r mains were sent to Hampton for inter ment. His son, who was with him, con tinues his work here. ‘Mr. V. bad been exposed to malaria and the rigors of- the hot summer before he came to Per ry, and the seeds of tbo disease were deeply implanted in his system. He made many friends during his short stay in our town, and dying, as he did, far away from home, obtained for him self and family tLe peculiar sympathy of our people. Sunday School Convention.—The Macon District Sunday School Conven tion cf the M. E. Church South, was in session yesterday and day before. Judge Giles represented the Perry Schools, and we hope will give us an account of the proceedings for onr next issue. Mr. B. W. Scott represented the Buff’s Chapel school. Sudden Death.—We learn that the wife of Rev. W. G. Armstead, colored, died quite suddenly in New Hope Mon day, of heart disease probably. The Cooley Troupe.—Dr. Cooley, wif - and children, composing one of the best combination shows ever in our State, will probably exhibit in l’erry du ring the fair. Good judges write that they far excel the Wallacks, who were good enough. The best of wiues and liquors, and fancy groceries at A.a. Lowe’s, Hawkinsville - I will send samples of all goods on ap plication, and prepay express on all bills of ten dollars and over tf. M. Stern.—Hawkinsville, Why will yen pay one dollar for an article when you can buy it for 50 cents? Dr. White’s Compound Fluid Extract op Buchu is the best remedy kno vn for Non-retention of Urine, Irritation or Inflammation of the Kidneys and Blad- des, Stone in the Bladder, Gravel or Brickdust Deposit, etc ..and all affections of the Bladder and Kidmys arising from weakness, Early Indiscretion, Fe male Weakness, Secret Diseases and all affections of the Urinary Organs in male or female. The greatest diuretic known. The market is flooded with preparations of Buchu, the majority of which are of little or no value, bring carelessly and unskillfnlly made, and often from ma terial having little or no medicinal val ue. In order, therefore, to avoid disap pointment, ask for Dr. White’s Com pound Extbact op Buchu, and insist ou having no other, as besides being half the price of others, it is made from ex actly what it is claimed to be, viz: Bu- chn Leaves, Uva Ursi Cubebs, Juniper Berries, is compounded scientifically and guaranteed full strength, The best dimetic known. Compare the article, the size of the bottle and the price, with any other Buchu in the market. The trade sup plied by Roland B. Hall, Druggist, Macon, Ga. For sale in Periy, by Dr. C. B. Mann. —tf. Cotnty Court.—For the past week Judge Nottingham has been kept busy, we might almost say day and night, by the violators of the law. The colored troops are enjoying the fall fights and the usual larceny exercises to the fullest extent just now. New Goods.—Mr. J. D. Martin has received a very neat and attractive stock of Staple Dry Goods, Prints, etc., and in a few daTS will have a nice line of shoes, crockery, etc. Extraordinary Grand Fall Opening at the popular store of M. Stern, Hawk insville, Ga,—tf. Rica Mill- I am putting np a mill to clean rice in the best manner and on reasonable terms on my place seven miles west of Perry.
