m rfins Home Jo urinal. THCBSDAY EYEXISG, OCTOBER 2, Deab Reader—If you can possibly pare that little amount you owe The flctsioH Home Journal, let us have it. paring the fair will be a good time to DS< The baby needs some winter dothes, and those we omq. are getting pdite and attentive. Do let us bear from y° n - jjovmo the Safes.—Mr. Self, of .Ma con, has the contract for moving the big iron safes from the railroad to the coart nouse and putting them in posi tion. The price paid by the safe com pany in contr actor rolls 1hem on their own wheels on timber and iron tracks, and will probably get them in position to-day. As the safes weigh nearly 7,000 pounds each, moving them is quite a job, and Mr. Self is earning bis money. Next week we propose to issne a extra edition of The Home Journal to be devoted espscially to the business in terests of Perry. We desire to circulate this paper extensively, and hope our' review of the business of onr tow-tjvdll embrace every business house in the place. We believe our merchants can offer superior inducements to the peo ple of Houston and adjoining counties, and if they would invest a comparative ly small sum eachifyear in systematic and peisistent ^advertising, they conld extend their trade very much. Busi ness men Qf other places study“advertis ing and practice it, and take custom, from the very doors of those who don’t. Our trade issue will contain the full list cf premiums awarded at our county fair, and will be in great demand. As our advertising rates are low we hope every business man in fcftwn will pnsh his business in our columns. Extra cop ies will be done up in wrappers ready for mailing, and sold at 5 cents each or 50 cents per dozen. EsritA trains are coming in and going out three or four times a day on all the railroads leading in to Perry, bringing visitors to the fair. Insure your Property.—I am now prepared to take risks, on dwellings in tbe splendid Georgia Home Insurance Company at very low rates, also to in sure merchandise, store houses, and other hazardous property at a reasona ble percentage. For particulars apply to. Edwin Martin. Married.—On Sunday morning last at 9 o’clock, at the residence of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Gatlin, near Per ry, by the Rev. J. B. -McGeheo,- Mr. Charles Whitehurst to .Mrs. Fannie- E. Causey. We are requested by the pastor, Rev. ff. 0, Armstead 1 , tq announce Jthat a festival will be given next Friday flight at the C. M. E. Church, New Hope, for raising funds to repair the building. Red Fox Race.—Judge Juo. H. Hose had,a fine race after a red fox last Sat urday morning. The dogs ran him four or five miles, and lost him on Mos- sey Hill. They then jumped a gray fox aud caught it in a few minutes. Jacobus & Co.—A great feature in Hawkinsville is the new exclusive clo thing store of this popular firm, next door to their dry goods store. They have a mammoth stock in nil their lines, and are doing a very fine business. Don’t fail to see them. * * MOTHER goose. The-Mother Goose '^entertainment at Cook’s Hall last, Friday night was quite a success. It was something quite nov el and unique to us, and we enjoyed it very much. Miss Susie Etheridge, as Mother Goose, sustained her part well, and was successfully assisted by Master Frank Phillips as Little Boy Blue. Our time and space will not permit us to mention the many amusing and sweet conceits of the blessed little children as they represented, the various characters. Among the most attractive was the ten little Indians and the old Woman that lived in a shoe,—and that shoe was al most large enough for an Atlanta wo man. The pantomimic comedy of the bachelor that went to London to buy him a. wife was well acted by Mr. Chas. E. Gilbert and ’Mrs Emma Heldt, and several, young ladies. The entertain-, ment concluded with a laughable farce entitled “the Train to Morrow,” which was well presented by Miss Eugenia Bateman, Mr. Jos. B. Riley, and Mas ter Bob Lee Cater. The attendance was tolerably good, and we learn a snug little sum was made for the churches. The managers, Mrs, G. H. White, and Mrs. J. G. Davis, conducted everything well, and the music by Mr. J. M. and Miss Dora Swift and Mr.- T. T. Martm was excel lent. PERSONAE. Frank Downs has accepted a situation with M. D. Wilcox, of Hawkinsville, where he will glad to see and serve his friends. Esq. Jas. H.' Hodges presents his best respects to his many friends m Houston aid adjoining counties, and informs them that he will.be glad to see them at the popular old Manning corner, with John Henry 4 Sons, Hawk insville, We had a call the other day from our friend, Mr. Jas. S. Iverson, of Macon, who is now a member of the new whole sale grocery firm of Smith & Jlverson, the Senior partner, being Mr. Ben C. Smith, formerly of Johnson & Smith. That popular trio| Pat Caldwell and Ed Mann arrived in Perry Friday, and were welcomed by the band at Houser’s branch. Pat- went back Monday, but Ed stays until after the fair. Mr. W. 0. Timbealake, of Macon was in town - the other day. He left a fine horse for exhibition at our fair. Henry M. Holt^clav?, Jr„ c has<gone to "Iw York to pursue his medical studies at Belvien Hospital Medical College. Our talented young friend Alonzo C. Riley was formally admitted to the. bar of this circuit at Crawford court last week after a thorough and very credita ble examination. He is attending on our county fqp;, Hon. B, M. Davis came down Satur day to recreate a day or two at home, he returned Tuesday. Mr. W. M. Gordon returned from New York Tuesday.. He reports a pleasant trip, though he didn’t, have much time to frolic, in the city. jacobus & eo.’s Mjaiftjixoth Dry Goods House, HAWKINS.VILLE, CA.
