ble Commentator” is emphatically the
book for the people. It is well and
handsomely bound-in two styles—fine,
durable, brown, cloth, black and gold
stamping, a6d French Turkey morocco,
Gilt cen tre stamp a iid edges. Tiie pa
per is good, and the type is large and
clear. Its 1020 pages are well filled
with important information about the
Bible; not only the text, bat the wri
ters and the time and cirenmstanees of
the writing. And it is. written in that
peculiar style which attracts people of
any age, and almost any class. While
it is simple enough for a very young
mind to clearly eomprehendrit, it is in
structive to thejmataiist mind. While
ii was originally intended for youths,
ministers read and study it witli.great
pleasure and profit. It is not a dry
refi^ence boob, but a most readable
volume, -setting the word of God in a
very natural and attractive form. The
anther dees not add anything -to the
word-of God. Where the text is simple
and tlear, he leaves it to -speak for it
self; but where it is involved in any
mystery he does all that iris much learn
ing, love and experience can do,to throw
light on the original text.
The book contains over 400 rich en
graving which form quite an attractive
feature of the wSrk, besides several im
portant tables which are useful for ref
erences. Every family should have
and read'a copy or this valuable work.
It is sold only by subscription. Mrs.

The speakers stopped at the Perry
Hotel, and the meeting in the court
was organized by calling -Mr. Bryant
W. Brown to the chair. A committee,
consisting of Dr. M. W. Havis, Dr.
D. Patiishall and Mr. R. J. Smith,
was appointed to notily the speakers
that the meeting Was organized, and
awaited their presence. The committee
retired and soon appeared with the
speakers, Hon. T. ML Norwood and
Gen. W. T. Wofford, who were greeted
with considerable applause.
CoL Norwood was neatly introduced
by the chairman, and proceeded at
once to address the audience, in a
speech that covered about two hours of
time. f It is not onr purpose to quote
from the speech at all, as we do Dot
deem it cur duty to make political cap-
iial for Mr. Norwood, even if he is cur
choice of tho two candidates for gov
ernor.
He-dealt entirely with facts, hence
his address could net he termed an ora
torical effort. He spoke calmly and to
the piont, making uo attempt to create,
enthusiasm or sympathy in his own be-
half. We were favorably empressed,
yet we have heard some Colquitt men
designate the speech as very poor ana
tame, as we also noticed several Col
quitt supporters leave the house while
the speech was being delivered.
Gen. Wofford followed Mr. Norwood,
but being limited as to time.spoke very
briefly. In neither of the speeches did
we notice any objectionable liagnage,
nor anything that savored of persecu
tion of Gov. Go’q-iift.
-We estimated the. ami-er.eear. about

Mr. Geo. M. Duncan died at tlieresG

Mr. Duncan was one of the-oldest set

several years sheriff of this county in
the palmy days of the Republic, was a
member of the Baptist church and of
the order of Free Masons. For sev
eral years, until a recent date, he lived
at Catliburt, Ga., and Mellonville, Fla.,
where he planted and reared an orange
grove. Mr. Daiican’s wife and chii

from which no traveller returns,” and
