regular democratic nominees, and the
ue^of J. W. Renfroe as a candidate
for stale treasurer in the place of D. N.

This fact paralyzed the fight between
the friends Of Colquitt and those of
Norwood, 'and ail joined in the common
cause to defeat’ these interlopers who
were trying to use the disaffection be-
tvveen the democsite on the candidate
for governor to insure their election.—
There was consternation at .first, but
very soon runners wore dispatched to
the different precincts, and the canvass
was so managed that large numbers of
negroes voted the straight ticket, no
questions being asked as to their pref
erence for governor?
Ah to the origin of Vilis ticket, it is
the general belief that Renfroe aud
Colemau are alone responsible, though
some believe that Joe Brown is at the
bottom of it, this belief being strength-
ed by the fact that Milter is ah anti-
Brown man, and Coleman is ah earnest
Browu advocate,still others believe that
some prominent; white men in Houston
concocted the plot, but we utterly re
pudiate this tale, aud we know that
Marlin and Winslow knew nothing of it,
and that they worked zealously to de
feat the trick, which was happily accom
plished.
The vote at the different precincts,
counted at Ferry to day, foots up as
follows:
