Mr. Thomas DaWkins, a citizen of
Houston county, departed this life on
Sunday, the 5th. instant. He had
been in ill health a long time. He was
81 years of age.

On last Friday Mr. Fred. M. Houser
had a slight difficulty with a mule just
after he started to ride from home to

thrown heavily to the ground, and his
left arm dislocated at the elbow. We
are glad to note that the arm is getting

in this county, was in Perry yesterdry
selling fruit trees for delivery next fall;
Mr. Rumph had shipped this sea
son, up to last Monday, at least 250
crates of peaches, and will ship 200
more next Monday. Of the peaches
already shipped, the retnrr s show an
average price of 328 and $24 per bush
el. Most of the peaches were shipped
to New York, though several specialor-
deis were shipped, to.Boston and other
cities. The success of Mr. Humph il

—Mr. \V. H. O’Piy. who has just re
turned from a visit to Laurens county,
reports the crops there mncli better
than in Houston. He tells of quite a
curiosity in the shape of a , negio boy
11 years old.who is on. Mr. Joel Coney’s
place in Laurens county. The boy is
healthy and of good size, and is em
ployed by Mr. Coney to wait about the
house and catch his horse. The curi
osity concerning him consists of the
fact that lie has never had but eight
teeth, all of which are now in his
mouth, 4 front teeth—2 above and two
below—and four jaw teeth—one iu each
si le of the two jaws, He is now cut
ting an eye tooth. Mr. O’Pry saw this
boy last week, and made him open his

—A colony of swallows have appro
priated a chimney at our. house to their
own use. Their nests haye been built
there, and, therein their- young have
beeu hatched^ Ou last Monday a coup
le of these young swallows were found
on the hearth of the chimney,and Tues
day night, one of the parent birds in
vaded our bed-room, much # to the dis
comfiture of our better half.- The bird
was caught and ejected only after re
peated efforts that made us so hot as
to convince ns that summer was really
here, notwithstanding the old assertion.
