The English apple crop is at
least a partial failure; on the'wUser
hand, the continental crop prom
ises well.
This year’s corn crop, if loaded,
for railroad shipment, would fill:
2,878,571 cars and mate a train
that would reach 16,440 miles, or
two-thirds of the way around the
worlds,
Prospects for increased apple ex

encouraging.
It is claimed thattevery y’efei' sees

as it is glazed.
French farmers report very ben

The Interior Depritment at
Washington has just decided that
applicants for patent cannot legal
ly “part their name in the middle.
The case in point was that of a
Mias Green, who signed her name
as N. Kate Green. The decision
is that the first name should have
been spelled out to make tbe claim
valid. Lawyers who part their
names in tbe middle have been
somewhat startled by this ruling,
facetiously observes the Times-
Democrat, and have concluded to
be on tbe safe side by signing their
names hereafter to all legal docu-
