I Reports reach us to the effect
that a disgraceful rdV occurred in
’ a coach on the Georgia Southern
J and Florida railroad last Satur-
; day night, as the train from Macon
was passing through Houston
county. Ho specific particulars
as to the origin of* the fight, or
who were engaged in it, have
reached this office, save thatdrnnk-
en negroes precipitated the fuss
by their insolent .actions towards-
lady passengers. It is said that
the train was very much crowded,
and that negroes arid white people
occupied the same car; that the
row started above Kathleen, and
continued for several miles.
Daring the fight, knives, brass
knnckles'and^pistofh were freely
used, andfejs said several negroes,
and perhaps one or two white men
were bruised, cut Or. shot. The
shooting is said to have been ex
ceedingly reckless, and -that the
train officials, and others who were
willing to assist them, were pow
erless to do anything to stop the
disgraceful proceedings.
We have no idea to whom blame
is attached, but we say an effort
should be made to find out, and the
guilty parties should be speedily
given a full dose of justice.
If this is a sample of.-fair prac
tice, we want nothing fair in our
experience.
