—The Fort Talley "postoffice
was burglarized last Monday night.
The burglar, or burglars,: -entered
the office through the bach; door,
boring through a panel, and then
unfastening the lock. The safe
was then drilled into, and the door
blown off its hinges | with powder,
or some other explosive. All the
money and stamps in the safe were
stolen, amounting to about $350,
including several registered letters.
The borbglary was not discovered
until next morning, and, so far as
we have. learned, the burglars are
unknown. Supposed; though, to be
professionals.

business in the estimation of the
people.
An opportunity will soon be of-'
fered the people of Perrj to settle
this question. We will have an
opportunity to change the system,
and to make permanent a good
thing.
As our readers know, the Geor
gia legislature has granted our
people the privilege, of establish
ing a public soheoi system and to
sustain it, in a measure, by taxa
tion. ■
The bill granting this privilege
wilt be submitted4o a vote of our
citizens on the first Tuesday in
December next. To ratify.this act,
and establish a free school system,
two-thirds of our voters must cant
their ballots in its favor.
Or the provisions of the act we
will not write until the bill itself
is published, and this will be done
next week.. ■ . -
A e-should not vote ^carelessly
on this subject, nor seifi-hly. Ice
welfare of the town is closely al
lied to the 'school question, and
there is no doubt of the fact that a
large and flourishing school in
Perry will materially add to the
prosperity of the town.
It is true that free'schools will
not personally give direct benefit
to those who have no children to :
educate, bit indirectly the pro-:
posed system . will ■ benefit every
business man and property owner
in the town. .
_ Of the provisions of the bill, of;
the educational advantages it
posesses, of the superiority of the
system over the plan now in vogue,
and of the benefits it will confer
upon the town in a business way,
we will write farther before the
election takes Mace.
