Bones are suffered to lie around
the farm, and, in a manner, wasted,
because they are of no value as a
manure. But of all the matters of
which bones are composed, there
is not a single particle which is
not a direct constituent of food of
growing plants if reduced to a
powder. I know many farmers
are above taking hold of old bones,
and would not handle them, how
ever valuable, bat the time has
come when the farmer must take
off his., nice feelings, roll up his
sleeves, and lay hold of any mate
rial tbatrhe can convert into food
for his crops.
Another waste is ashes. Many
farmers do not think ashes .are
worth anything as a manure, and
therefore suffer them to be wasted.
But potash; in some form, is abso
lutely, necessary to the grow’th of
plants. •
Now, as to bones, they are not
available as food for plants, but to
mix them with the ashes that are
suffered to waste in the course of
the winter,dissolve them into dust,
then this mixture is one of the
