HE TELLS ABOUT THE SUFFERING OF HIS
DAUGHTER.
and Neuralgia,
From the Republican, Oolumbut, hut.
While in the neighborhood of Kugby,
Indiana, recently, a reporter was told that
Hiss Clara Hopkms. daughter of Mr. Dennis
Hopkins, a promihl' f farmer of Bartho
lomew County, had been the subject of a
remarkable transformation. The reporter
decided to investigate and learn the par
ticulars. He was driven to Mr. Hopkins’
splendid country home, where he had an
interesting conversation with that gentleman
regarding the illness of his only daughter.
** Vftti V»f»r»n informed. ft t
‘You have been correctly informed,” said
Mr. Hopkins, “ for Clara has indeed had a
severe siege. She tried Dr. Williams’ Pink
Pills for Pale People and they did her more
good than all other medicines together that she
ever took. A few boxes of that medicine
accomplished the cure of a case in a few
months which had baffled physicians for
years,
‘About three years ago her health began
aid this
to fail. The doctor who attended her said
was caused by weak digestion. This produced
nervousness.which was accompanied by neu
ralgic troubles, which at first was located in
the nerves about the heart. Of course this
was a dangerous location for any such trouble,
and she rapidly grew worse, notwithstanding
that the physician was treating her. This
continued till a year ago last November, at
which time she was almost constantly confined
to her bed.
• “The neuralgia became gradually worse,
and finally she was a confirmed victim to it.
“Nervous prostration set in, and she was
toon all run down. Her blood was impure
and watery, and ner complexion became sal.
low and colorlesB. She had no strength, and
the least noise irritated her, she was so ner
vous. We had another physician, and he
treated her steadily for a year without doing

her any good. In fact, it seemed that she
was continually becoming worse. He finally
gave up the case as hopeless, and

Pills for Pale
People for her, as he said that they were the
only thing that would benefit her.
“ I procured a couple of boxes of the pills,
and found that their use helped her con
siderably. She kept on taking them till she
used about a dozen boxes, with the result
that she was entirely well, and since then
there has been no symptoms whatever, of her
old trouble. Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills are
certainly a wonderful medicine, which did a
wonderfiil good in Clara’s case, doing what
several physicians failed to accomplish?’
All the elements necessary to give new life
and richness to the blood and restore shatter
ed nerves are contained, in a condensed
form, in Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Pale
People. They are also a specific for trou
bles peculiar to females, such as suppres
sions, irregularities and all forms of weak
ness. In men they effect a radical cure
in all coses arising from mental worry,
overwork or excesses of whatever nature.

Written by an ex-Confederate Soldier.
CHAPTER XL
Upon being advised of the fu
rore in the car, Captain A. who
was seated in another car, came
rushing into ascertain, if possible,
the cause of the disturbance, and,
seeing seated in one corner of the
car what he supposed to he a Jew
foot peddler, he promptly ordered
him out of the car, demanding his
right to obtiude his worthless
presence upon such precious mate
rial as Confederate soldiers were
at that time supposed to be made
of.. But the supposed peddler
didu’t budge, with a pleasant smile
oa his handsome face, and criti
cally eyeing the irate captain, he
sought to appease him, assuring
him that he was entirely quiet and
tranquil, and besides he was very
small and didn’t occupy much seat
room, but the irate captain insisted
that he should vacate the ear, the
supposed peddler remonstrating
and assuring the captain that his
mission was an important one and
that be did not wish to he hinder
ed or delayed, and finally told the
captain that he was Jndah P. Ben
jamin, who had just been placed
at the head of the Department of
Justice of the new Confederacy.
The scene now changed. Thu
captain’s turn had come to feel
mortified and humiliated at the
egregious mistake he had made in
mistaking the Premier of Justice
of the new Confederacy for a foot
peddler, and his polite bowing and
apologizing to Mr. BeDjamiD wonld
have done honor to a Chesterfield.
Recovering from his chagrin
and mortification, and at the re
quest of Mr. Benjamin, who, in a
good humored way, enjoyed th
joke at the captain’s expense, the
now pacified and somewhat crest-
fallen captain shared seat room
with Mr. Benjamin, and entered
into a lively conversation with
him, from which, the captain, no
doubt, learned much which he had
not before known.
But the captain did not share
alone the superstition, or whatever
it was that at that time forbid con
federate soldiers from coming in
touch with the common citizenry,
lest they should he disrobed of a
part of their soldierly dignity.
Even the presence of lady travel
ers at this time wonld hardly have
induced a division of seat room in
a first class car. But as the novel
ty of the thing wore away, and
the war progressed with unrelent
ing fury and the fact became appar
ent that the country was involved iu
astrnggle in which all should be en
listed, each in his own proper
sphere, this feeling gradually yield
ed to reason, and seat room in the
cars was thenceforth shared with
out regard to class or individuals.
Quiet having beeu thus restored,
good feeling again prevailed and
wa had a pleasant ride to Branch-
ville, S. 0., where, for some reason
Ido not now recollect, we changed
cars for Wilmington, N. C.

Col. Candler has refused all the
various invitations sent to him by
executive committees and other
bodies to indulge iu the pleasures
of a joint debate, practically npon
the ground that there was nothing
in it—uothing for him, that is.
But this plea will certainly not
hold good of the invitation to be
issued to him by some of the promi
nent young Democrats of Bibb,
who propose to ask him and Judge
Atkinson to a fish fry, at Massey’s
mill, near Macon. The man who
says there is nothing in a Georgia
fish fry, or disdains to attend one
for any reason, not even excepting
death or martiage, would show
himself utterly disqualified for any
position of trust or judgment and
we can not understand bow Col.
Candler is going to get out oE ac
cepting.
Incidental to the fry the follow
ing excellent programme of ad
dresses has been made oat:
“The advisability of making A.
D. Candler governor of Georgia”
—Spencer E. Atkinson.
“The advisability of making
Spencer R. Atkinson governor of
Georgia”—A. D. Candler.
Among the young Democrats
who have taken the initiative in
the fish fry and joint debate are ad
mirers of both Mr.Atkinson and Mr
Candler.' Each feels satisfied that
his favorite candidate will be urg
ed to accept the invitation. There
is every reason to believe that
Judge Atkinson wijl accept, and.as
Colonel Candler seems to entertain
decided views *.on the subject as
signed to him and to be willing to
deliver himself of them, there is no
good reason why he should not al
so be present, enjoy the fry, fry
his opponent and be fried. Espe
cially is this trne since Mr.,Orrin
Massey, who is one of Mr. Cand
ler’s most ardent admirers, will
furnish the fish, and see that every
possible convenience is arranged
for the speaking.
The date will be arranged to suit
the two distinguished guests, and
the man who does anything to pre
vent the feast will be held to a se
vere accountability by the voters
of Middle Georgia.

It was ’way back in the Cumber
land mountains that a missionary
or colporteur came up to the cab
in of a Lardy mountaineer, who
had the reputation of never hav
ing been thrown in a wrestle.
The missionary tried to get the
mountaineer to expend.a dollar in
the purchase of a Bible. The lat
ter refused, whereat the missionary
said that, with the help of the
Lord, he proposed to wrestle with
Hawkins, and iu the event of the
latter being thrown he must pur
chase a Bible.
‘Yer can’t do it not od,” said
the settler.
But the missionary did it and
Hawkins promptly prodaced a dol
lar for his Bible.
“Didn’t I say the Lord would
help me?” asked the preacher as
he mounted his male to ride on.
“Yes; but it wasn’t quite fair!”
growled Dan as he stood with the
Bible in his hands.
“But it was. What ar’ yo’ com
plainin’ of, Dan?”
“Of the Lord. I’ve lived right

How to Eiook Good.
Good looks are really more than
skin deep, depending entirely on a
healthy condition of all the vital
organs. If the liver be inactive,
yon have a bilious look; if your
stomach be disordered, you have a
dyspeptic look: if your kidneys be
affected, you have a pinched look.
Secure good health, and yon will
surely have good looks. “Electric
Bitters” is a good Alterative and
Tonic. Acts directly on the stom
aeh, liver and kidneys. Purifies
the blood, cures pimples, blotches
and boils, and gives a good com
plexion. Every bottle guaranteed.

A Wife’s Signal.
Although March is the month
in the calendar which is named in
honor of the god of war, April
seems to be the month most inti
mate with strife aDd bloodshed.
.This observation is specially true
with reference to the great conflicts
of American history.
On April 19, 1775, occurred the
first battle of the American revolu
tion at Lexington, Mass. On
April 15, 1788, the preliminary
treaty of peace between Great
Britain and the United States was
formally ratified by the provisional
congres which met in Philadelphia.
Since the part which April thus
played in the achievement of Amer
ican independence was so pro
nounced it seems fitting that Presi
dent Washington should have been
inaugurated on April 30, 1789.
The opening gun of the Mexi
can war was fired April 25,1845.
On April 12, 1861, the first gun
shot of the Jate civil war was fired
at Fort Snmter. General Lee
surrendered to General Grant on
April 9, 1865. General Johnson
surrendered to General Sherman
on April 26, 1865.

Nervous housewives whose hus

In passing any dishes at the ta
ble of which there may be a limit

point to mention the enigmatical
letters, “F. H. B.” in such a man

of the guests around the board.
Immediately the members of the
family are aware of the circum
stances and discreetly partake very
lightly, if at all, of the viands in
question. The secret of the three
letters was solved a few days ago,
and the hostess afterwards laugh
ingly confessed her little scheme.
