GET OUR PRICES BEFORE BUYING Cotton i Kngines, Gins, £ Boilers, Cotton Presses, American Com in India. A cargo of com . sent by “The Chrsistain Herald” to the starving people of India several months ago on the steamer “Quito” has been distributed among those who most needed it. This gift was a great benefaction. A venerable Hindoo, watching the issue of the corn, asked weather it was out of pure charity; and when told that it was, replied that he was an old man but had never seen anything like it before. The fact is, the sending of this com from Amer ica has more or less affected the whole Hmdoo community. As the people have carried it on their heads all over the stricken district it has attracted the attention and touched the. hearts of the remot est villagers. The fact that it was sent out of pure philanthropy by people living thousands of miles away, across three seas, has moved the hearts of the people as a thou sand sermons would not have done. One hundred thousand dollars is the prize which Dr. Angler Bel- linzaghi, a young Italian special ist, may win as the discoverer of a serum which cures yellow fever of the worst form. Several years ago the Mexican government- agreed to give this amount to the discoverer of the remedy for yel low fever, which every year is epi demic in the lower gulf ports. Sermons Without Text. Some Paisley weavers were speaking about their ministers. One said that it was wonderful how much his minister could bring out of Scripture. He had known him to preach several sermons from one text. Another said his minister surpassed that, for he had preached six sermons from the shortest text in the whole Bi ble. “But that’s neathin’ to my wife,” said the third. “She’s been preachin’ to me for sixteen years frae nae text at a’.”—Chi cago Chronicle. With extraordinary candor, one of the big trusts of the country has recently given an official en dorsement and proof of the fact that it, like its congenors, is the offspring of the tariff and depends upon its toother for continued life. The fact that this testimony was involuntary makes it all the more convincing. It has long been known that hnndreds of articles produced in this country under tariff protection are regularly shipped abroad and sold there for less prices than are demanded at home. Our imports from the Philippine islands have -been 25,000 maimed, diseased and crip pled American citizens.” — No other pills can equal DeWitt’s Little Early Risers for promptness, certainty and efficiency. Holtzclaw’s Drugstore. The Invention Of Bread. The discovery in Egypt, says the “Bakers’ Journal” of a loaf of bread #,000 years old or older, a part of which was well enough preserved to make it possible to identify barely as the grain of which it was made, recalls the fact that one of the most remark able of all inventions is so old that we have not only no account of it, but nothing pointing to it, and so common today that we rarely think of it as an invention or a 1 wonder—it is bread. ■ There have been found in Egypt pictures and inscriptions that car- !ry the history of bread-making very far back, and show us some of the early processes. Yet what they show us is unmistakbly bread, and the invention of the prooess lies far hack of that. Deafness Cannot be Cured by local applications, as they can not reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one .way to cure deafness, and that is by con stitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eus tachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed deafness is the result, and unless the in flammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be de stroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condi tion of the mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dol lars for*any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be.cured by Hall’s Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars, free. y P. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, O.
