Death of Mr. Chancey.
Grovania
liY JuE BEDG5.
Our new Pastor occupied the
pulpit yesterday, and delivered us
a plani, impressive discourse, to a
goodly and attentive congregation.
His subject was, “Bless the
Lord, O my soul, and all that is
within me,” etc. Our people -were
favorably impressed with our new
pastor and we believe from the
first impression it will he engrav
ed.
The Grovania School opened
this morning with Miss Mattie
Miller as principal and Miss Mag
gie Mahone of Unadilla as music
teacher. We all know Miss Mat-
tie as an excellent instructress
and we will make no comment^
Miss Mahone is an accomplished
young lady in music and no doubt
will give satisfaction to her pu
pils. While we believe that we have
some home girls that are as well
accomplished and deserving that
could fill the same position, there’s
nothing like having a name from
home.
Christmas is over and a thing
of the past, and say nothing about
it. I just write to let you know,

Mr. Thomas B. Chancey died of
pneumonia Wednesday morning
of last week, at his home near
Kathleen. The burial was in Rose
Hill Cemetary, Macon, Ga., Thurs
day. Mr. Chancey was about 57
years of age, and was born in
Houston County in the same
neighborhood where he died.
He was a gallant soldier in the
Confederate army, was married in
1865 to Miss A E. Marshburn, who
died in 1887. About two years
later he married a Miss Grafield
of Macon. He was again left a
widower about two years ago.
Of his family only two chil
dren survive him, a boy and girl
about 9 and 7 years of age respect
ively. . ■
We understand his life was in
sured for $2,000, and he owned
the farm, about 290 acres, on
which he lived. He was an excel
lent gentleman, an entergetic and
successful farmer, and his friends
were all those who knew him.
The bereaved children and oth
er relatives have the sincere sym
pathy of his many frieiids.
