Sent Delegates to Brunswick, A large and enthusiastic meet ing of leading citizens of Perry, Ga., was called to order at the Court house this Monday morn ing, January 21st, 1901. On motion Col. 0. C. Duncan, Sr. was chosen chairman and Thos. M. Killen* secretary. The object of the meeting was then stated by chairman to be to induce the Brunswick & Birming ham Railroad to run their pro posed line through Perry, Hous ton County. On motion the Mayor of Perry, J.-P. Duncan, and W. H. Nor wood, Judge A. C. Riley, J. D. Martin, F. M. Houser, and Judge S. T. Hurst were appointed a committee to go to Brunswick on Wednesday next and represent us, advocate our interest at the Bruns wick meeting and to do and per form all other things necessary to secure the desired object. On motion it was unanimously resolved that the said committee be authorized to pledge the right- of-way through Houston county and the sum of $10,000. G. C. Duncan, Chairman, Thos. M. Killen, Secretary. —The Fort Valley knitting mill is nearly ready to begin opera tions. The building is complete, and as soon as the machinery, which has been received, can be put in position, the manufacture of underwear will commence. The capital is entirely local, the stock holders being H. A. Mathew, F. O. Miller. M. S. Brown, A. J. Evans,' J. M. Jones, W. C. Fagin, L. L. Brown. Mr. F. O. Miller is president, and Mr. J. M. Jones treasurer and general manager. — —Several days ago we were told that the wife of a Houston County farmer last year sold near ly $400 worth of milk and butter. The average per cow was about $92, and she calculated that about half of this was clear profit. She was so situated that she sold readi ly. the entire milk and butter product of the cows, except that used by the family. —Though there are three trains to and from "Perry daily, except on Sunday, people can go direct to Macon and points above Fort Valley only on the train that leaves Perry at 1:50 p. m. Pas sengers from Macon and above can come direct to Perry on the train that leaves Macon at 12:05, arriving here at 1:25 p. m. ■ j —Thursday morning eight road defaulters will be tried in the Court house before Commissioner Dennard for failing to work the roads in the Upper Town district, or to pay the commutation tax as repuired by law. All are ne groes. ; —Mr. Hinespeter, representa tive of the Music House of F. A. Guttenberger, & Co. returned to Macon last week, but will return to Perry whenever orders have been received for the tuning of four or five pianos. BARRED P. ROOKS. Houser’s. n Mort Heavy Hogs. The hog crop of Houston coun ty is certainly of superior charac ter this year. Reports of other heavy weights have been sent in. The heaviest town hog that we have heard of this year belonged to Mrs. M. L. Cooper of Perry, was killed last week and weighed 452 pounds net. Mr. T. V. Fagan of Fort Valley killed three hogs that weighed, respectively, 806, 280 and 218 lbs; an aggregate of 754 and an aver age of 251^ pounds. Mr. J. D. Arnold of near Claud has killed 5 hogs 16 months old that weighed 1,635 pounds, their individual weights being 835, 333, 328, 328 and 321. He killed 6 pigs nine months old that weighed 195, 178,168, 137, 135 and 183, a total of 943 pounds. Farmers near Hattie have also killed some heavy weights. Mr. S. D. Thompson got 1018 pounds of pork from 3 hogs, they weigh ing 512, 264 and*242 respectively. He has six more that will weigh 1000 pounds. Mr. W. G. Middlebrooks got 552 pounds of pork from 2 hogs, and Mr. M. F. Etheridge killed 2 that weighed 700 pounds. So far Mr. Thompson beats the band. Oyster Supper At Hattie. There will be an oyster supper at Centerville School House Fri day night, January 25th. The purpose is to secure funds for benefit of the school, and to afford social enjoyment to those who desire to attend. Excellent service.
