By Uncle Ned. A delightful entertainment was tendered the young people of Elko by Miss Kezar, in honor of her friend and guest, Miss Smith, on last Thursday evening. The even ing was delightfully enlivened with music and recitations. De licious refreshments were served at about 10:30 o’clock, and at 11;30 the guests began departing, saying the occasion was the nicest they ever enjoyed, but that is al ways the case when we go there. Those present were, Misses Mari- belle Grace, Mamie Chance, Bes sie Houser, Lilly Houser, Edith Houser; Messrs. G. H. McDonald, Fred Eubanks, Eugene Houser and Lawton Houser. On Friday we spent another very pleasant evening, at the res idence of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Means. King Grass is ruling everything his way. Miss Bessie Houser of Perry is visiting relatives in onr city. Miss Lilly Houser of Macon iB the guest of Miss Edythe Houser. Mr. B. (X Kendrick of Hender-' son was in Elko on business one day last week. Mr. Will Gaines of Birming ham, Ala., is with relatives and friends here, and we are glad to have him with us again. Mr. Lawton Houser has return ed home from school. Misses May aud Esther]Smith, who have been the guest- of Miss' Lucile Kezar, returned to their home at Locust Grove to-day. We regret their departure very much. A party of Elko young people will leave Wednesday for Ocmul- gee river, where Tthey will spend several days fishing. Miss Nell Harrell of Cochran is the guest of Mrs. J. H. Clark. Col. J. T. Jeter and family of Unadilla were with friends in El ko last Sunday. Rev. J. T. Mims filled his reg ular appointment here Sunday. Dr. J. O. Mann went to Macon last week to see little Sarah, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Means. We are glad to know she is much better. Mr. H. E. Marshall went to Henderson Sunday on business. Mrs. Wm. Means visited rela tives in Macon last week. “Socks,” we were all glad to hear from you. It fills our hearts with joy to hear from our old friends. Come again. Death Near Heard. Last Tuesday night the death an gel visited the home of Mr, and Mrs. Y. E. Heard and summoned their son, James Edward, to his eternal home. The dear boy was about six years old, and during his illness of about six weeks suffered very much. The interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Perry Wednesday af ternoon. This bereavement is beyond the comforting power of man, but the Heavenly Father will console, for He has but added to His household. Ed.] Owing to recent rains, a good number of farmers are walking about, scratching their heads and looking at their hfcy patches. Well boys, if you get your hoes and mules, and let the mules graze while you hoe, I think you can soon sit in the shade again. Mi. “R. R. Smith says he will start a McCormic mowing ma chine in his cotton fields about the last of the week. The farmers are having quite a bad time with their wheat; most of it is still in the fields, and much of it is sprouting. A negro living on Mr. R. W. Hartley’s farm has threshed 38 bushles of wheat from one acre. The best we have heard of this seaon. Cotton blooms and roasting ears are shining in this communi ty now. Mr. R. C. Anltman has the fin est corn in this vicinity. He says it will average 3 feet high. Quite a large congregation at tended preaching at Fellowship on second Sunday. Elder A. A. Garrett delivered a very interest ing sermon. Singing at Lakeview Sunday evening,. June 23d. Miss Mary J. Hartley has re turned home from a visit to rela tives in Crawford county. Madam Rumor says there will be a marriage in our midst before long; a young lady about a mile west of Claud and a young man about a mile out on the east side. Two of our most popular young people. The many friends of Mr. A. C. Arnold are glad to know that he is up and able to stir again.
