ROMANCE IN REAL LITE.
Macon Lady Goes to California
a Husband.
The announcement in the News
that Miss Julia Sophia Smith of
Macon and Mr. Albert E. Price of
Riverton, CaL, were married T ~ , ~
18th, created no unusual
but behind the marriage there is a
charming bit of romance that
more like a story from a
it does from real life.
Some time ago Miss Smith an
swered an advertisement of “Wife
Process too Expensive.
Warts are carious things, says
Youth’s Companion. They

though their going is fre
quently marked by exasperating
delays, and there are almost as
many infallible cures as there are
warts, the only trouble being
they are useless when applied
the particular wart you happen
have. They are only good for
other people’s.
In my opinion,” said a club

Wanted.” It was not long before man, who was discufsing the sub
she received a reply, and from the
first the letters began to breathe
words of ardent love.
Before many letters had passed
there was an engagement, and it was
not lung before Mr. Price had asked
Miss Smith to come to San Francis
co in order that they might see each
other, and in case a personal inspec
tion should prove satisfactory, they
could be married and forever live
happily, etc.
Miss Smith being of a rather bus
iness turn of mind, as well as roman
tic, replied that as the distance was
so great and the expense on such an
uncertain trip would be rather heavy,
she would ask that Mr. Price pay the
expenses of the trip. A return letter
brought her assurances of the undy
ing love he bore for her and also
that he was wealthy and that he
would gladly pay all expenses, and
in case she should decide to change
her mind after she had seen him, he
would pay her expenses back to Ma
con, and in the letter there was a
check for $100 as a guarantee that
the writer intended to keep faith
with what he said.
After a few more letters had pass
ed Miss Smith made up her mind to
make the trip, and accordingly she
set out on her long journey across
the continent. The arrangements
were to the effect that she was to
wear a pink bow on her shoulder in
order that the expected lover might
be able to recognize her when she
arrived at the dopot in the Golden
Gate.
Upon her arrival there she was
met by her lover and it was a case
of love on both sides at first sight,
and after a trip to Riverton had
been made and Miss Smith had sat
isfied herself that Mr. Price had not
misrepresented anything to her, they
returned to San Francisco and were
married, and letters received by rel
atives in this city from the bride
state that she is perfectly happy in
her new home.—Macon News.
ject with a friend one day, **a
wart is merely the outward corre
spondence of some mental excres
cence. Get rid of that, and it goes
away.
“Let me give yon a bit of my
own experience,” he continued.
“Last year I went to Europe.
For about three years I had had
a wart on my little finger, on
which I had tried everything '
could hear of, but withont effect
It only grew larger.
“Well, in the excitement of pre
paring for the trip, and of the
journey itself, I forgot all about
my wart, and when I looked for
it, about six weeks later, it had
vanished, without leaving the
slightest mark. I simply forgot it,
and ti had no mental condition to
feed en. I see you have one on tht
back of your hand. Forget all
about it for a few weeks, and it
will goa way of itself.”
“Yes,’’said the other club man,
shrugging his shoulders, “but I
can’t afford to take a trip to Eu
rope for the sake of curing one
wart.”

Sam Jones illustrates Sabbath
breaking in this original manner: “I
have seven dollars in silver in my
pocket. I go down the road and
meet an old beggar and he says:
Please give me something.’ I give
him six of the seven dollars, and
that night he comes in where I
sleep and steals the other one: Ain’t
he mean? • God says, I have seven,
and you take six, and then go back
and steal the seventh one from him.
Ain’t you a dandy?”
P. T. Thomas. Sumterville,

pepsia when I commenced taking
Kodol Dyspepsia Cure. I took
several bottles and can digest any
thing.” Kodol Dyspepsia Cure, is
the only preparation containing
all the natural digestive fluids. It
gives the weak stomachs entire

Suppose that a young man of
twenty-one should make a vow to
put away just five cents a day,
each day in the year, and not touch
his savings for ten years. Do you
realize that, at the end of that
time,he would have one hundred
eighty two dollars and fifty cents
to hi3 credit, as the result of put
ting away an amount so small
that he would never miss it?
Many enormous fortunes have
grown from a much smaller capi
tal than this.—“Success” for Au

Table Decorations.
One of the most satisfactory
colors to use for table decoration is
rose pink, which bears the light of
sun and artificial lights without
much change, says a writer in Good
Housekeeping. Blue often becomes
green ami vice versa under the influ
ence of gas or electricity. Violet
changes its hue and yellow appears
faded and pale away from the sun.
Red is a trifle dangerous in combina
tion and contrast, although very
cheerful and effective if used in win
ter, when warm tints are acceptable.
Foliage green is always pleasing,
especially in summer, when ferns
are obtainable everywhere outside
of city limits. Large and small
ferns will keep their fresh greenness
if, when gathered, they are placed
one over the other compactly on a
thin piece of hoard or cardboard
and then sprinkled or even im
mersed in cold water and kept in a
cool, dark place for several hours.
Ferns so treated have been used 24
hours later for church decoration
and were as fresh as when growing

f A Great Livestock Show.

The livestock department of too
Southern Inter-State Fair has always
been a prominent feature. The exhibits
of livestock at the Fair of 1899 were far
ahead of any previous show held iu the
South; and the exhibit* last year were
quite equal to any in the United States;
indeed, there was only one Fair that
made as good a showing last year—that
was the great Illinois State Fair, held
at SpnngfielcL
The success of the livestock show at
Atlanta has been attained through the
influence of extremely liberal premiums.
Most of the stock shown comes from the
North and West, and large premiums
have been necessary to induce ex ui tut
ors to bring their stock such a great dis
tance.
The Fair Management has determined
to offer even larger premiums for stock
to be shown this fall, therefore, it is safe
to presume that exhibits will be’ cor
respondingly larger. Special classes
have been opened for livestock owned
in Georgia, south Carolina and Ala
bama. This has been done for the rea
son that Southern breeding interests are
hardly ready at this time to compete
with Northern and Western herds that,
represent many years of carexul breed
