PRESS DAY AT THE
BIG ATLANTA FAIR.
Press Day, on which all the editars
of Georgia and adjoining states will be
entertained by the management of the
Southern Inter-State Pair, at Atlanta,
has been fixed for Tuesday, October
&5th. Coming as this does, in the mid
dle of the great, show to be held in the
capital city"from October 9ch to 26th, it
will offer a most varied lot of attrac
tions to the editors. .
Every fair ever held in Atlanta has
had its Press Day, but the Press Day
this year, it is expected, will exceed
them all in point of attendance. For
wholesale enjoyment there is no body of
men iff the world who can crowd more
pleasure into a shorter time than the
ubiquitous editor and this year every
thing will be wide open to them on
Press Day.
Several of the most prominent editors
of the south will attend on this day and
it may be that a set programme for the
pen-pushers may be arranged. At any
rate they will all have an opportunity of
having a glorious day of it and they are
expected to come in full force.
SmaUest Railway In the s
World at Atlanta Fair.
The smallest railway in the world,
perfeot in. absolutely every detail and
capable of carrying forty passengers at
a trip, will be one of the multitudinous
attractions at the Inter-State Fair in
Atlanta, October 9ch-26th. This rail
way has long been an amusement in
Central Park, New York, and nothing-
like it has ever been seen in the south:
The locomotive, scarcely two feet
high, has tremendous power, although
when the engineer sits down at his
throttle he nearly smothers it. Each
car will seat four passengers, find the
track is just one foot wide. As a curi
osity this is one of the queerest at the
fair—as an amusement feature it is un
surpassed.
Marvellous Trained Dogs.
In connection with the Bench Show,
which will be the principal feature of
the first four days of the Inter-State
Fair, in Atlanta'Oct. 9ch to 26th, there
will be shown the greatest troup of train
ed dogs in the world. This is Lavelle’s
Great Danes, dogs weighing from 150
to 250 pounds, the largest in the world.
These dogs in their inarvelUras exhibi
tions have astounded the largest cities
of the country. In bringing them here
the Fair management believes it has
secured the best troup of trained dogs in
the world. The exhibition will be free,
as will the Bench Show.
Raging In Macon. '
In connection with the Southern In
ter-StateFair, Oct. 9th to 26th in Atlanta,
Mr. O. Mowers, one of the most noted
horsemen of the country, has de
cided to give a six days’ racing meet,
for harness horses and runners at Ma
con, beginning Oct. 7th. After the meet
the horses, will all go to Atlanta, where
the racing vyill begin on Oct. 16th and
continue for 10 days. Mr. Mowers has
leased the Macon track for five years
Mia the racing there, it is expected, will
raise the standard of the horses to be
seen in both cities.

tion of masses in connection with
tha illness and death of President
McKinley: “The church does not
publicly offer mass for the repose
of the souls of those who die out
side her fold. Since the doctrine
on which the mass is founded is
repudiated by some of these, it
would be straining charity to do
so. While this is the official at
titude of the Church, however,
there is no rule to prevent any
priest celebrating mass of his own
volition for such a purpose; nor is
there any reason to prevent indi
vidual Catholics praying for the
souls of those who have not died
in the faith, inasmuch as our
Holy Church considers all who
have received Christian baptism
as belonging to her in a certain
sense. They may be of the soul
of the Church, outside the body.”
It is said that Representative
Miller of Muscogee will introduce
into the Legislature this fall,
the request of Pension Commis^
sioner Lindsey, a bill providing
for the compilation of a roster of
those who served in the Confeder
ate army from Georgia. If this
bill should become a law it is not
improbable that the pension list
will be cut down very considera
bly. Apparently Commissioner
Lindsey is of the opinion that
there are many drawing pensions
from the state whose names ought
not to he on the pension roll. He
is forking along the right lines.
The people want to pay pensions
only to those who are entitled
them under the law.—Savannah

Deafness Cannot be Cured
by local applications, as they can
not reach the diseased portion of
the ear. There is only one way
to cure deafness, and that _ is by
constitutional remedies. Deaf
ness is caused by an inflamed con
dition of the mucous lining of the
Eustachian Tube. When this tube
gpts inflamed you have a rumbling
sound of imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed deafness
is the result, and unless the infla-
mation can be taken out and this
tube restored to its normal condi
tion, hearing will bedestryoed for
ever; nine cases out of ten are
cansed by catarrh, which is noth
ing but an inflalffed condition of
the mucous-surfaces.
We will give One Hundred Dol
lars for any case of Deafness
(caused by catarrh) that cannot
be cured by Hall’s Catarrh Cure.
