The Meaning of Figures.
Atlanta Journal. _
Statistics are dull or lively, ac
cording to the way in which they
are used.
Their meaning and importance
may often be illuminated by apt
illustration and comparison.
A* writer in Ainslee’s Magazine,
for instance, deals with the sta
tistics of our agricultural pro
duction in a manner that makes
them much more impressive than
they are when set down in plain
figures. He tells us : that the
wheat crop of this couifty at its
best, if piled on the plain of
Gizeh, would make nine pryamids
as large as Cheops; that Texas
alone grows more cotton than any
foreign country and we have six
teen other states and territories
which produce cotton.
The cultivated farm acreage of
the United States is greater than
the combined farm acreage^ of
France, Germany, Austria, Italy,
England, Ireland and Scotland
and more than half of the pro
duction of our' farms are sold
abroad.
Our wheat and cotton crops are
now of about equal value, $850,-
000,000.
Nearly two-thirds of the cotton
crop goes abroad and of the one-
third that is manufactured in the
United^States the south uses about
two-fifths and New England about
three-fifths. The south is gaining
on New England rapidly in the
manuacture of cotton.
These statements and illustra
tions will impress many a reader
who would pay no attention to a
simple array ®of figures that cover
the same facts.
Where Flowers Abound.
The most popular place around
Macon for the ladies is the flow
er garden at the entrance to Rose
Hill cemetery. At the iron fence
around the garden, they may be
seen at all times of the day, in
ecstacies over the view. At the
top of the beautifully terraced
and grass matted hillside the gar
den is like a richly colored coro
net. Roses bloom there in • ex
travagant profusion in winter’s
cold and summer’s heat, in wet
weather and in dry. The red ros
es in winter burst through crusts
of white snow, as if determined
to display their beauty to the ad
miring gaze of the lady visitors.
The chrysanthemums, almost as
large as sun-flowers; the helio
trope beds, emitting odors that
suggest vanila ice cream, etc., are
there, each vying with the other
for supremacy in the garden,
which is Sexton R. B. Hall’s spe
cial pride.—Telegraph.

A Physician Testifies.
“I have taken Kodol Dyspep
sia Cure and have never used any
thing in my life that did me the
good that did,” says County Phy
sician Geo. W. Scroggs of fHall
County, Ga. “Being a physician
I have precribed.it and found it
to give the best results.” If the
food you eat remains undigested
in your stomach it decays there
and poisons the system. You can
prevent this by dieting but that
means starvation. Kodol Dys
pepsia Cure digests what you eat
You need suffer from neither dys
pepsia nor starvation. The worst
cases quickly cured. Never fails.

There is a very large class of
people in Mexico which makes a
living out of the production of
drawn work. In many of the
schools, especially those conduct
ed hy the government for indi
gent children, and those run in
the interest of the Catholic church
in Mexico, the art of drawn work
is taught. In the Girl’s Home
there are several hundred young
girls who devote a large part of
their time to the production of
the finest of Mexican needlework.
“Last winter an infant child of
mine had croup in a violent
form,” says Elder John W. Ro
gers, a Christian Evangelist, of
Filley, Mo. “I gave her a few
doses of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy and in a short time all
danger was past and thechild re
covered.” This remedy not only
cures cronp, but when given as
soon as the first symptons appear,
will prevent the attack. It con
tains no opium or other harmful
substance and may be given
as confidently to a baby as to an
