A Woman’s Awful Peril.
“There is only one chance to
save your life and that is through
ah operation” were the startling
wbrds heard by Mrs. I. B. Hunt
of Lime Ridge, Wis , from her
doctor after he had vainly tried
to cure her of a frightful case of
stomach trouble and yellow jaun
dice. Gall stones had formed and
she constantly grew worse. Then
she began to use Electric Bitters
which wholy cured her. It is a
wonderful Stomach, Liver and
Kidney remedy. Cures Dyspep
sia, Loss of Appetite. Try it.

Death of Mrs. Starbuck.
Mrs. Emma CL Starbuck, wife of
Mr. B. P. Staf^|pck, died at their
home near Perry Wednesday morn
ing, December 11th, 1901. She had
been sick several days, but was
thought to be recovering when she
was stricken with paralysis early
that morning.
The burial was in Evergreen cem
etery Thursday afternogn, attended
by a large number of friends.
Mrs.- Starbuck came to Houston
county with her husband and family
in December, 1896, and since then
had made friends of all who became
acquainted.
She was an exemplary member of
the Methodist church, a woman true
and kind in all things.
The bereaved family, husband,
two sons and a daughter, are her
only relatives in Georgia, and with
these their many friends here sin
cerely sympathize.
Below is a memorial written by
her pastor, who performed the buri
al ceremony:
Mrs. Emma Coleman Starbuck was
born in East Hampton, Maas., July
19th, 1849, was married to Bailey
Starbuck in Knox county, Mo., May
11th, 1879, and died at their home
in Houston county, Ga., near Perry,
December 11th, 1901.
Sister Starbuck was converted and
oined the Methodist church in early
ife. To her church vows she was
ever faithful. She was indeed and
in truth devoted to her home and
her home duties. Hor husband and
children have lost, a faithful wife
and a loving mother.
While absent from the body she is
present with her Lord. Yonder in
those bright mansions above, where
death never enters, and sufferings
are no more, she is safe at home.
May the loved ones left behind be
faithful to the end, in order that
they may havo a reunion in that
City whose Maker and Builder is
God. B. E. Whittington.

Mr. Zack Hays, who was appoint
ed by the governor to represent
Houston county in the good roads
convention held in Atlanta last
week, reports that he was well
pleased with that system of working
the public roods. Mr. Hays is an
all round practical man and a splen
did financier. He was once a mem
her of the board of county commis
sioners of Houston, and being in
charge of the public roads worked
by the ehaingaDg for eight months
by his good judgment and economy
reduced the expenses incurred from
the chaingang about three hundred
dollars per month. No doubt he re
ceived a deserved compliment from
the governor.
Mr. W. E. Warren will soon have
his new residence ready to move in
to, which will be quite an addition
to Powersville.
Miss Dora Hancock, a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Hancock,
and young Mr. McGee, of Bibb
county, were married Tuesday, Deo
10th. Not being informed ofothe
particulars of the marriage, we are
unable to give a report. We learn
that Rev. Isaiah Grant of Knoxville
performed the ceremony. However,
we must say, knowing Miss Han
cock as well as we do, that she is ca
pacitated and worthy to adorn any
man’s home, and we congratulate
Mr. McGee on winning the prize.
Messrs. Shade Farr and Warren
Myers, our neighbors, will move
down to the oaky woods next week,
on the lands of Mr. A. H. Tharp.
They say they are going where they
can make the fleecy staple.
Furman Cliett, who has been at
tending the business college at Co
lumbus, Ga., since last spring, has
come home to spend the holidays
with home folks. He will return in
the spring to complete his course.
The oat crop has just come up to
a stand, and the farmers are uneasy
for fear the present cold weather
will greatly injure the crop.
Now, Mr. Editor, we close by
wishing you and family a merry
good Christmas.

A. McGhee, of tiear Knoxville, Craw

The parlor was tastefully decora
ted with evergreens and other orna
ments, and at the appointed hour
the door was opened and the brides
maids, Misses Laura and Fannie Da
vidson, entered the parlor, followed
by the bride and groom, the latter
halting at the spot assigned them.
Then Rev. Isaiah Grant, of near
Knoxville, performed the ceremony
in a most excellent and well-worded
manner, and the solemn vows were
taken which made the two hearts
beat as one.
After congratulations the young
couple and the invited guests were
summoned to the dining room to
partake of one of the most excellent
suppers ever prepared for such an
occasion.
The groom is a popular and pros
perous young farmer of Crawford
county, and Bhoutd be congratulated
on his ability and success in win
ning so fair a bride, while the bride
is one of the most estimable young
ladies of our community, and her
friends are numbered by her ac
quaintances. Her many friends of
this community and county regret
very much to give hor up, but that
is Houston’s loss and Crawford's
gain.
