Christmas at Dennard was a very quiet one, with less staggering and loud talking than I have ever no ticed on such an occasion. Wheth er the people were unable to buy the requisitemmoupt of fool juice or de ls thoroughly equipped with modern machinery, and we are -prepared to save you the middle man's profit on any kind of Vehicle, from a Log Oart to the ..finest Rub ber Tire Buggy, by sell- ing you direct from our Factory. Mossy Hill Notes. . ; BY SOCKS Christmas passed off quietly, but exceedingly pleasant, on The Hill. This morning finds everybody sober and ready to go to work, somewhat disheartened, but with a strong will. Santa Claus bobbed in and out of cided to observe the day as it should 1 the homes in the same old way,mak be; I do not know. In the absence of cider and fireworks, the citizen by proclamation went otherwheres to enjoy himself. Thinking of Christmas and- the crimes usually committed on that | day brings up the liqpor question, for doubtless it is responsible for most of the deviltry of the holidays, but we have got and will continue to have whiskey in spite of the pre cious breath and time wasted on it by each legislature. In my opinion one of the most important bills in troduced in the last legislature was defeated. • I refer to the one making drunkenness a misdemeanor. Such law, coupled with local option, ing many hearts happy. He brought fifty pounds of nice books to me read, and I am quite sure I could have no present that I would have enjoyed more. There has been much changing around on The Hill. Some of our farmers report plenty is dis- of labor, while others say it tressingly scarce. The old year that is passing away was a most remarkable one, and it didn’t mind getting out of joint on the shortest notice. In fact, it seems the hand of fate was just fixed to hit going and coming. The grain crop is reported badly A Good Cougli Medicine. [Front the Gazette, Toowoomba, Axistralia.] I find Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is an excellent medicine. December has certainly furnished its part of winter, probably more than any one this section remembers to have ever seen. The oat crop is still in doubt. In some fields there seems to be a very good stand left while in others it is doubtful it enough are left to let stand; It will take several days of very favorable weather to fully settle the question. There seems to be plenty of farm labor in this section, wages ranging from seven to nine dollars per mouth with rations. Mr. C. P. Pitts has moved to the , J. W. Colyer place. I want to vote for a fellow to go to the legislature who will get a dog law passed' and then have the cour age to stand by it, and not work for its repeal before it goes into opera tion. The fine" dog, Prince, given us by Maj. J. N. Tuttle ef Perry, was worth big money on any plan tation, but was bit by a worthless cur and had to be killed. A gentle man near Elko had a pointer that he had just refused $160 for bit last week by a mad dog. The same dog in its wild flight, came across the Hill, and is thought to have bitten other dogs. Mr. and Mrs. Webb of Wilcox county spent a few days on the Hill last week, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Q. B. Till. Mr. S. M. Oox and family, who farmed on the Hill this year, have returned to Jasper county. Mr. I'. W. Pool, much to the re gret of many friends, has moved from the Hill, below Henderson.
