mm Schilling, aocompanied
by Mr. J. S. Brunson, went down
to the Brown plantation on Hog-

A jury was empaneled, com

Williams, m G. Johnson, E. F.
Cheek, E. Hipps, and J. S. Brun
son.
The investigation began at
about 2 o’clock p. m.,and the tes

facts, in substauco.
Eugene Lowe, a negro boy
about 16 years of age, was shot
and killed by Lumas Day. The
weapon used was a pistol,...and the

The schooting oceuced at about
8 o’oclock Sunday afternoon.
Four witnesses were sworn, two
of whom saw Lumas Day shoot,
and saw Lowe fall. The other
two heard the pistol, saw the

resulted therefrom within a few
minutes.
One of the witnesses says the
boys were “fooling with the pis

The verdict of the jury deolared
that the schooting was man

Lumas Day was arrested,
brought to Perry by Coroner
Schilling and Ml J, S. Brunson

was secured by Coroner Schilling.
It is a 88 calibre revolver, appar

This is a bright, glad, beautiful
world, fragrant with the odor of
flowers; tuneful with the Bongs of
birds; resplendent with the glo
ries of earth and sea and sky, and
yet its attractions now are un
noticed by us, for grim, merciless
death has appeared in our home
and snatched from us our father
and husband. Our sky is hung
with black and sombre cloud-cur
tains.
Our vision is o ’ey oast with the
gloom of sorrow, and every sound
that strikes our eays has 1 in it a
cadence of despair.
Without l the presence of the
loved one, who has gone before,
the'world indeed seems empty and
cheerless, and in our hearts there
is a dreary, dismal, aching void.
The only consolation we have
is the sweet realization that our
beloved is at peace.
The one upon whom we lavish
ed our affection is now in that
land “Where the wicked cease
from troubling and the weary are
at rest.”
Bending over the coffin, looking
at the folded hands, which will
never clasp ours again iu this
world; gazing upon the closed
eyes in which we will never more
.see our image reflected, our scald
ing tears fall, as we realize that
out earthly Father is gone forev
er from this world..
And the only consolation is
that our hearts’ idol has heard
the words from the Father’s lips,
“Well done, thou good and faith
ful servant, enter thou into the
joys of thy Lord. ”
Our consolation is formed in a
consideration that our treasure
is in Heaven.
The poor, worn frame will nev
er more be racked with the ago
nies of pain; suffering is{ at an
end.
But ’twill only be a little while
until we will cross the dark river
and join our loved father amoug
the hosts of the saved on the oth
er shore.
Dearest Father, thou has left us,
And our loss we deeply feel,
But ’tis God that has bereft us,
Be oim u!l our sorrows heal.
Yet again wo hope to meet thee,
When the day of life has- tied;
Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no fare-well tears ,ate shed.

—Last Saturday afternoon a
