BY THE JUDGE. Sunday was a rainy day and we had to say our prayers at home. Mossy creek has been on a boom since Saturday, and the flood gates have been taxed to their utmost ca pacity to keep the water from over flowing the dam. Probably more water has passed through Dennard than at any one time Bince last Sep tember, or since February, 1896. Very little plowing can be dono for several days. Many planters had commenced to plant corn. The grain crop is beginning to show some signs of life, aud may yet make a good yield. Much cotton and guano has been hauled to and from the railroad within the past few days, one man alone having shipped to Macon about 16 bales. Though the cotton crop of 1901 has about all been dis posed of, here and there may be found a bale. Candidates are getting restless and are beginning to stir. It is to be hopsd that the executive com mittee will see fit to name an early day for the primary, and apart from the state and congressional primary. Our county primary is entirely local in its aims, and in my opinion can didates for county offices should not be handicapped by candidates for state and national offices. In sup port of the call for an early primary, I may say that many of the candi dates are farmers, doing their own work, or making a hand at least, and it will be to their interest to have the primary come off before the grass begins to grow. It probably won’t make any difference with the gentlemen who hold the teat al ready; it won’t be unfair to them, at least. By the time this reaches your readers Miss Evie, eldest daughter of Mr. and. Mrs, J. O. Sandefur, will be the bride of Dr. Fair S. Brinson of Stillinore. The bride-to-be is one of the most beautiful and cultured young ladies of this section, and it may be said truly that the groom has drawn a grand prize in the lot tery of life. Myrtle News. BY SOCKS. A recent letter from a friend in the great bluegrass state informed us that it rained there sometimes, too. That’s no news, I am sure, for the little sprinkles we have been having for the last few days is good evidence that the country is not suf fering for the want of water. We never saw the ground so wet, and farming is at a standstill. Much corn has been planted, but people will be anxious about stands, etc. On Sunday many branches were swimming and travel was cut off. The public roads are. also badly cut up aud washed. Last week two negroes of this community were painfully shot while fooling with pistols that were not loaded. One got a bullet in the stomach and the other in the leg, from a 44, but little damage was done in either case. This makes at least a half dozen negroes that have been shot in the county within the last few months, and all claimed to be accidental. Politics is getting warm and the candidates are passing compliments, etc. Well, they are all nice fellows and it’s a real, pleasure to shake hands with them—the grip is so cordial and assuring. We never were so anxious for a little garden sass and some fried spring chickens, but the prospect is gloomy to-day for the garden sass, as we can’t tell where a row was made in our garden, from Saturday night’s rain. But fresh country eggs and butter are on top, and we are getting there just the same. March 17, 1902. Concert at Wellston Postponed.
